A DWI Offer You Can't Refuse
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:21:59 pm »
I came across this piece on The Fix
http://www.thefix.com/content/no-refusal-night-austin

At first I was happy to hear that they were taking a more aggressive approach with people who drink and drive. I have zero tolerance for such irresponsible behavior.

But as a I read I started getting very nervous...

There are other mentions of budget cuts and lack of personnel to manage the process.

How can we be sure they are properly disposing of needles? Maybe in the budget crunch they attempt to clean and reuse? It may be years before anything surfaces here. A potentially very scary situation.

I guess the bottom line here is don't drink and drive.

I can't really see them attempting to re-use needles for the simple fact that they would be guilty of the possible contamination of evidence - a charge which would be difficult to refute - and cases would be thrown out left and right. Syringes are relatively cheap these days and their re-use would be an extremely false economy.

But this law sounds like a blatant violation of civil rights to me. It needs to be thrown out by the Supreme Court asap.
