mugwump, how do you upload a photo? I have been trying to do this but cannot figure out how. If I click the "insert image" icon in the editor, I just get

"img" and "/img", each in square brackets

am not sure what to do with that in relation to the jpeg on my desktop I would like to share. Do I need to first have the jpeg mounted online somewhere?

thanks!

I think you do have to have a url for the image and then you stick the link in between the first img and the last one starting with the [/img] and then close it with [ img ]  no spaces
I hope that made sense because I tried to show you but it turned into a little X LOL

hmm I just tried it with an image from FB and it didn't work :(
I used to know how to do this :(

hmmmm… it's all very puzzling, the photo upload thing. some people here clearly know how to do it. i could mount the photo somewhere else online to give it a URL, then try plugging it in between those 2 img things… see if that works.

yeah it is weird because I used to have a website that had this exact same forum ...but my memory sucks :(  and I can't remember anything anymore
I tried again with an image from FB maybe the url is too long.  I do remember using photobucket a lot back then.  Anyway good luck I am sure someone will explain if you don't get it on your own

Yes you need to have a web url for the photo and it has to be uploaded with share privilege enabled . I am currently using google. With a browser like Firefox you can right click on your online image and copy the web url to the clip board and pre save the address to a text file for future use or use it directly in the img selection chooser of a site like this. That way you can avoid typo errors which is the most common problem. I have never bothered to create a web space from the allocated space that our ISP gives us with our broadband connection. That way it would be capable of more than just sharing photos.

Debula you have it backwards the /img is the closing tag not the opening tag. Old school sites used straight html which looks like this <a href="http://www.allthepicsnoonewantstosee.img23456721.jpg">ugly pic of fishing trip</a>. Which of course is parsed as a link in this forum but leads to nowhere...LOL

But as you can see this old method is for us old school computer guys who still like to type out long formatting commands to impress their friends and bore their relatives! ;)
This is what happens when you use the image tags the format is with no spaces between the tags here is the link with the wrong brackets {img}https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Btt0GuAZ9qA/VPkpuAYcyVI/AAAAAAAAAXE/i02lZASU9rM/w673-h505-no/walter1.jpg{/img}
And done correctly with opening and closing tags in square brackets so you do not see the web url or the tags

Thanks very much for this explanation, mugwump. I get how to do it now. :)

The thing I would like to know is: what is the easiest free way for me to have an anonymous place online to upload a jpg I then want to post here? Your web URLs for those images are visible if I download the images to my desktop. I downloaded one of them because I wanted to see the image size. It also showed me the URL. So if I were to post the image I want to upload here on my own blog first to give it a URL I could use here… I would be outting myself (at least to a small number of people here who end up seeing the URL and checking it out). That is something I am trying to avoid until I am cured.

best,
kim

I use google drive because it does not show the profile if you set it up correctly and only allow users to view and not comment or modify your content or view the user info. As you can see the link only shows https://lh6.googleusercontent header and resource info not the personal web content or name of the user. You have to carefully set up user privilege limits and only grant limited access for your shared content. So it is more difficult to use than faceplant but much more configurable if you learn the interface.

I guess that is why google is not as popular as facebook it is more difficult to use but... It is a lot safer if you know what you are doing!

I appreciate knowing that about google drive being more secure, mugwump. I think that may be useful for me for various things.
