New to the forum but not hepc
« on: July 25, 2013, 10:01:35 am »
I have had hep c since 2003, i was an iv drug user for 22 yrs.I found out at a methadone clinic and every year they would take blood and i would ask how i was doing,it was a basic blood test, but the doc would tell me my numbers are normal and he said that i could be a carrier and not have any symptoms......I took that and ran and life got hectic and i started to have a cocktail 1,2,3ect. I would go in for my annual blood (again it was a basic test) and no news is good news. The point is i havent been taking care of myself and just recently stopped drinking(I was in total denial) I went to my doctor for a complete physical, complaining how very tired,no energy and  i am still not saying i have hepc..I am soooo scared to find out all the damage i have done, she gave me blood wk up and my red blood cells are very large,i have to go back friday i am gonna tell her about the hepc,i dont want to die
I have been taking liver resque and milk thistle ect..anything to feel as if i am helping out my liver after drnking a pint of vodka,I hope i am not offending anyone
i understand this disease will kill me and my prayers are with all of you who are going through treatment and those who have made it through.I guess my question is what do i do know? what tests? what kind of dr? Is there any supplements that r good?

Hi Dee-Dee,

Welcome to the forums.

You've taken the all important first step of going to the doctor. The next step is confirming the diagnosis and running tests to see how your liver is doing. You've also quit drinking which is huge for getting through hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is not a death sentence. There are lots of current treatment options and lots of new, easier to take, options on the way.

Collect all your lab results and then talk through your options with your doctor. If you'd like folks here to chime in, feel free to post the results here too.

For information on how to adjust your lifestyle to make life easier on your liver, I suggest exploring our bloggers (http://blogs.hepmag.com). Lucinda, Karen and Connie all have great advice on living with hepatitis C.

You can do this!
