hep c positive antibodies but negative PCR
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:20:48 pm »
i did antibodies test and i got positive (with test note: weak positive!).
then i go through PCR many times and i got negative all the time.
1- is there any risk of hep c to go into positive PCR??
2- can i get rid of hep c antibodies in future?
3- is it possible to infect my husband?
4- i have 2 kids, should i make hep c antibody test for them because i have antibodies while i was pregnant?

Hep C antibodies are the evidence of an exposure to the virus. 20% of men and 40% of women clear hep C on their own in the first 6 mos of the exposure.
+hep C antibody with negative PCR = no hep C
1) No risk at all. However, if you were to come into contact with the virus again, say if you shared injection drugs with someone, then you could get it. The antibody does not protect you from future infections.
2) No - it's there for life
3) No - you have nothing to infect with
4) They could only be antibody positive if you actually had the virus while pregnant
