Just got 2week quant. still not cleared
« on: August 20, 2014, 01:52:42 pm »
Hi  you all i just got my 2 week blood results. I went from six million plus down to 68. my PA was kind of disappointed that I didn't clear it because  my first week I went from six million to 520. I know that's great but I'm really kind of bummed out.  he is sending me for more blood work on Friday morning that will be my third draw end of my third week and then again on the 29th. he said that if I still have any copies in my blood at the fourth draw he is going to stop the medicine!

Help! Has anyone had this happen to them. Im praying to be clear at this next draw Friday!  I don't want to get this low and then have to stop. Only to have it come back full force!

I'm stressing ........

Don't freak out! Reading the forums it appears that most people go undetectable at 4 weeks. As I work in the lab PCR numbers at low ends are not always exact, exact so I am sure the next one will be undetectable. Saying my prayers for you!! Larry

Ty Larry,

I read your response, thought about it and looked around on the forum and you are definitely right! I'm not as panicked as I was earlier. I'm going to get my blood work done on Friday and go from there.  I wish he would only just do it every couple of weeks.

thank you for the prayers I really do appreciate it!
I will post my next blood results. thank you again!

I did not know they check the blood that often.  Seems the docs I have will only be checking it once during and then a month after the 12 weeks are over.  I also read at a sovaldi site that it is still in you for sometime after you stop.  I have been reading online comments from quite a few who did not clear until after first month.

Hi Virginia,

Be patient. A 2 week VL test doesn't tell you anything and does not correlate with the final outcome.

Cheer up! You went from 6 million to 68 in two weeks! That is amazing and you're not even at the 4 week mark!

Virginia,
I think we are in the same boat!
I received my 10 day on therapy HCV DNA! I am almost there!. I am at 250 . I started at 2.5 million. At day 5  was 700. All liver tests were normal. I have blood again next Tuesday. Praying for an undetectable! Larry

Hi tess, i don't know why my doc checks every week. I'm thinking once i go UD ( and i will) he will curb my labs.

Hope you get awesome news when it's your time!

Virginia, my doctor's schedule is the same as Tess'.  VL week 4.  (Which was yesterday).  Then again 3 months after tx.

Don't stress, your Doctor may want to keep a closer watch on when the impact of the drugs kicks in; but, week 4 seems to be the norm.  :)

Virginia,

What drug regimen are you on?  I am unsure the purpose of weekly quant tests unless the MD's 'are just curious', or you are on a test program of some sort.  4 logs in a week is amazing, 5 logs in 2 weeks is amazing, the flattening curve seems strange, but one more log is UD.  Let us know what you are taking and what your next labs show.  Best wishes, jack

Virginia, Did a search and see you are on Sovaldi and Ribavirin.  So, not sure why a weekly quant test.  What genotype are you?  I was looking for drug resistance issues with Sovaldi, and find a little discussion around Genotype 2, but nothing really matching what you are describing.  Keep taking your meds, and let us know how the labs look. Good luck! jack

Hi jack,

I was told in  1996 that I was genotype 1a.  before I was put on medication my doctor wanted to retest my genotype. when the results came in it came back a 2. so he retested me again for genotype because of the discrepancy and again it came back a 2. so yes I'm on solvaldi and ribavirinin.

I'm not in any kind of test group. it may be that I have worked for  this Dr  in his business office for over 10 years, i never really questioned him. Normally i deal with our PA who is great.  I do go again tomorrow morning for my 3rd week draw and will let you all know if i am UD yet. I'm praying it will be 3rd times a charm!!

Gheee, my genotype has never been rechecked.  It was noted on my bloodwook   years ago and my doc says it is something that never changes and no need to recheck.  Another thing to think about now - Yowsers !

virgha828,  Four weeks is the indicated time for the first blood checks according to my specialist. She said that some of the doctors in clinic do it @ two weeks because they are more excited about the new meds and the great results than their patients. They are now the Rock Stars at the ID clinic with these new drugs. It used to be the HIV Drs. that held that designation but not anymore.

Hi,

Genotypes do not change during the course of infection, unless somehow someone got re-infected in some way I guess. Just a supposition, but perhaps a mistake in the earlier lab test?  -jack

Hi jberlin

Yes genotypes should not change but I'm sure there can be human error.

Mine was tested in 96.  My doc said that in 1996 this test was not perfected. He said not until about 2000.  I was treatment naive until now and part of the routine bloodwork he retested genotype because it had been so long and he wanted to make sure i was on the right meds and time length. We were both very surprised. So a week later i had it done again and again i came back a 2.

Im just sharing how it went i would have never questioned it. It was my doc.

so here i am starting week 4. Bloodwork done this morning praying for a UD result!

Two weeks is not the main check point, although on O & S (Olysio & Sovaldi) sometimes it is non-detectable.  But you had quite a load, (2.5 mil) that takes awhile to eliminate, esp. since the way the drugs work, I think, is to stop their ability to reproduce, and it takes a while for generations to die out.

I think Bucky is right. Some docs check to get amazed. Don't forget what they have been through with interferon & ribavirin

I just recv'd my labs for 4 Weeks on the new drugs, S & O.   This is my 4th treatment. I have had (1) Interferon & ribavirin, (2) Pegalated interferon & ribavirin, (3) triple therapy, i.e., Telaprevir, pegalated interferon & ribavirin and
now (4) Sovaldi & Olysio. Here are the best readings I have ever had:

- AST 18, ALT 9
- Total bilirubin 0.4
- HCV viral load -  Not Detected.

I am happy to say the least.  I must continue treatment for 8 more weeks (2mths) and then, 12 weeks AFTER I stop treatment we will retest again & if  am still at virus  non-detectable I am considered cured. (as long as I stay that way.)
