SOVALDI AND OLYSIO SAME DOSAGE FOR ALL?
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:22:00 pm »
I posted this question in another site and I am waiting to see how many repond. The current dosage for Sovaldi(400) and Olyiso (150) is given to all regardless of patients size, a male of 260 lbs get the same dosage as a female at 120 lbs. Current meds like Riva can be adjusted and these two are not. I would think the female at 120 lbs  would have more is system because of her size and that should make her have more sides and maybe better results. Does anyone know the science behind same dose fits all?

It has to do with how quickly we metabolize and eliminate the meds. You would think dose would matter, but oddly enough, sometimes small mammals need higher doses because they metabolize more quickly. They do studies that look at the dose, and eventually figure it out. However, sometimes they don't figure it out right away, as we are finding out several decades later with ambien (women need to take less).
