My PCP wants to take me off treatment
« on: September 24, 2014, 03:27:48 pm »
Hello,
My PCP doctor wants to take me off of my treatment. I am taking Sovaldi + ribavirin + pegylated interferon for 12 weeks. I have had side effects that I thought was normal. Vomiting,  pain in joints, anger at times, feeling up and down, shaking and swollen liver. And earlier I posted craving sweets. I have waited years to take this treatment and don't want to stop now. I have only been on the treatment for 2 weeks. Why would he want me to stop? I have had no blood test

Hi Dawn,

Sorry to hear this. I'm not sure why the doctor would stop treatment; but it sounds like it's due to the side effects.

Make sure you follow your doctor's orders.

I would encourage you to call the doctor and check if you can get in and see him/her tomorrow to discuss specifics. Most doctor's offices can squeeze in a patient under special circumstances, and I would imagine this would qualify.

I would call and explain the situation to the receptionist/nurse and, in an assertive but calm manner, see if you can be squeezed in ASAP.

Please let us know what you find out.

Best, best wishes, Mike

Only your doc can tell you the reason. However, there is another way to look at this - in about 2 weeks we will hear from the FDA about ledipasvir/Sovaldi - a single pill a day with mild side effects, very high cure rates, and treatment will be any where from 8 to 12 weeks. Perhaps your side effects will qualify you for this easier treatment.
