s/o question?
« on: November 10, 2014, 09:01:29 pm »
when a person fails s/o treatment, are there any indications during treatment that are noticeable that a person may fail that have been reported or is there not enough data for this.  do some enzymes elevate as a indicator.  if you are not svr at 8 weeks do they give up on it.  is their anyone who has failed know of any indications.  thanks  trapper

Trap,

Great question, thanks for reading my mind again! I am very curious as well, 2 weeks still showing small amount VL, 4 week still showing small amount of VL. I mean really small but it's still there and not gone. I will add this to my list of questions for my dr who I see on Wednesday.

I have read a ton of posts that people said they were UD at 2 and 4 weeks, so a little apprehension over here.

I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that happened in the Harvoni clinical trials, and most people were still cured. Let me know what your doc says.

For questions, I suggest asking the Olysio support line: https://support.olysio.com/

I am one who says I am undetected and still has a teeny bit of virus. Maybe. That's because my lab results said "undetected" and then on another line said "less than 12". I've read different things but one is that they say less than 12 or 15 only because it is possible to still have some virus remaining but they cannot see it and so, also say undetected. I didn't ask the doctor because it was only at 4 weeks and essentially meaningless since darn near everyone is undetected while on S/O. I see a doctor tomorrow and get my 8 weeks labs done and will ask him.

Here's what it said:

Reportable Range: 12-100,000,000 IU/mL
The HCV specific signal was above background, but below the linear quantification range of 12 IU/mL.  This result is likely due to a very low-level HCV viremia below 12 IU/mL.
HEP C PCR, QUANT   Undetected, Undetected - See Below IU/mL   Weak Positive

Before starting S/O my viral load was 2,500,000

I'm afraid I simply like saying I'm undetected and feel justified in doing so because the lab says undetected, but I guess I'm really not. Confusing.

Hi everyone
I have a question for Lucienda, hi Lucienda hope this note finds you well. How long does it take for blood counts to go back to normal after s/o tx? I have a few numbers in the high range. Granyed they aren't too much over limit, but still concerning.  My doc didn't say anything when he called. I would've asked but did not have results sent to me at that time. Thanks for a response. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. .. Sunrise

Hi Mel,

A couple of things.
I saw my doctor today and asked him about why my VL would say undetected as well as less than 12. He said they say less than 12 because it is possible there could be a minute amount of virus that does not show up or that they are unable to count because the amount is so tiny, but that for all intents and purposes I am undetected.

As far as taking omeprazole with Sovaldi and Olysio my doctor agreed with your doctor and said to only take one omeprazole and to take it 12 hours before the S/O because the S/O does indeed need that acid. So, I thank you very much for sharing your info because if I hadn't read it here I would have never thought to ask the doctor about it. A different doctor than this one prescribed the omeprazole saying it was fine to take it and both Gilead and Janssen had said it was okay but my doctor, like your doctor, said it is not a good thing to do without 12 hours inbetween.

Hi Rubye,

Thank you so much for getting the < VL number confusion cleared up. I think until I am 6 months post with ND I'm not going to believe it and that's down the road a bit for me. Right now I'm trying to not focus on the numbers and instead deal with today and how I feel, listening to my body and eating as healthy as I can. I'm just happy have the new medications and if this combo doesn't work the next one will!

I'm really glad you checked with your doctor about the omeprazole as well. This was not a medication I though in a million years would impact the outcome but apparently it could and its not worth taking that chance in my opinion so I'm going to deal with it. Since my acid reflux issues are normally at night I'm back to taking my S/O in the morning and then the Prilosec at night only when I need it.
Keep on taking great care of yourself and one day we will both beat this beast 100%
