S/O approved
« on: October 20, 2014, 04:52:04 pm »
Got approved this morning for S/O for 12 weeks.  Called Optium RX and they confirmed and will send 4 week supply to start on the 15 th of October.  I got approved through my appeal.  No thanks to my GI dr or his staff.  I think they are warehousing patients no matter what condition they are in to better themselves financially by buying hcv meds in bulk and making huge profits on them.  My thanks to hep mag  for information on how to appeal because that's how it got done.  I have a question on  immunizations and being on O/S treatment.  Can I get my hbv booster shot, flu shot or pneumonia shot while on O/S treatment?  Once again I thank this forum for your help.  and don't give up.  You have to stay on top of your case if you want to get something done.     Trapper

Hello Trapper,
Glad you brought up the dangers of grapefruit. It significantly halts the absorption so you become toxic.

When Janssen  conducted Olysio and food absorption studies, the subjects didn't drink grapefruit. This tells us 2 things, 1) We don't know if Olysio interacts with grapefruit, and 2) there is a presumption that grapefruit will interact with grapefruit.

In short, I think you made a wise decision Trapper. Here is a little more info: http://hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot.com/2011/01/grapefruit-juice-dangerous-medication.html

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Hi Trapper,

Just checking in with you before I head to the doctor. The last few days have been tough on me. I am now day 24. It seems my Cirrhosis has decided to really rear it's ugly head and I have some fairly significant edema especially in my lower extremities. I can't get socks on my feet but was able to fit some older stretched out uggs to wear today. They are a little tight but I can't go barefoot in the cold weather :)
Still itching like crazy but again I think this is more due to the cirrhosis but I will let the doctors decided how to handle it. Keep on keeping on, smile at someone you don't know today they might need it, For me maybe I will do a random act of kindness for someone to pass on all the good I get from this forum. I am so thankful for all of you and for it's existence!

Doctor is over an hour away so I need to head out but have a great day and I will check in later.

Over the years, I have had many meds that had a warning on the bottle concerning consumption of grapefruit. My former coworker was taking Metformin for her diabetes and was eating grapefruit to lose weight. Eating the grapefruit affected the absorption of her meds and her glucose levels went sky high. Yes the bottle had a warning, but she did not read "that" part.
Sometimes simple things can have a big impact .

Hi Trapper   Actually I "HAD" a relatively low viral load - 860,000 at baseline. I was tested at week 4 and was undetectable. Enzymes dropped to normal range. Was not tested for viral load at week 8. Will test for viral load Tues. EOT. Fred220 was on same meds and Doc discontinued his treatment.Still detected at week 8. He had severe muscle and joint aches. There is still some debate on what treatment follows failed S/O. It appears Abbvies 3D combo is the treatment showing good results for failed S/O. I dont think they would extend treatment after 12 wks if your detected still at 8 weeks. I think that liver condition is more a factor than high viral load with these new meds.  Wishing you successful treatment.
