Hi Penny,

So sorry about how your day turned out today.  Many people have been approved that are not "sick enough" so get your doctor to fight for you - call the Harvoni Support Line and tell them your story - they will also fight for you and have lots of experience dealing with the insurance companies.  Get your "can do" attitude on and persevere.  The healthier you are the easier you will handle treatment and the better chance you have to beat this thing.  We'll be looking to hear that you've been approved - good luck - .....Islandgirl

Hi Penny, don't give up, I was denied for Sovaldi/Olysio for the same reason. They said it was not medically necessary to treat. In other words I was not sick enough. My doctor appealed and was denied again. It was then that we decided not to continue with the appeals because Harvoni was about to be released. Now this is were it gets crazy. They approved me for the Harvoni. My doctor advocated for me through the Gilead support path program. they gave me a coupon that goes toward my copay. I only have to pay five dollars for every prescription. I believe this program helped me get approved. Personally I think the insurance companies are doing us an injustice to allow us to walk around with a disease that can eventually harm us. I see some kind of future law suits as people who are denied medication become sick. So sorry you are going through this i totally feel your frustration. I became depressed when I was denied. All I kept thinking  was they want my liver which is already damaged to be more damaged. What an injustice for anyone in the need for medication. Contact Gilead support path I'm sure they can help

The first lawsuit against Gilead Sciences was filed yesterday by the Philadelphia Public Transit Agency. They paid out 2.4 million for Sovaldi this year and the suit alleges discriminatory pricing as it is offered to other government agencies(VA) and in foreign countries at lower prices.

I get so angry when  I hear this sort of stuff! the makers of these new drugs are raking in billions of dollars. Now my doctor was very easily able to get me my medication for free. I do work I do pay my taxes but I could not afford insurance. It makes me angrier that the people that pay for their insurance are the ones that are denied for this medication. I feel that the company that makes harvoni are very generous, it just seems that the regulations of the insurance companies are making it hard for everybody. So frustrating... There are other ways to get around insurance I think Patient Assistance Network pan is one and of course the support path also. Best of luck on this on I'm sorry to see you going through this... just don't let it get you down hun. Keep problem solving and eventually you will get your medication. It took me about 2 months to get approved after diagnosis and sending in the paperwork.
