Hi Corlene....

That's good news for sure!

If you read through our posts you will see everyone's journey with Harvoni results.
We've pretty much all been sharing them.

But yes you are right on target friend.      I didn't get a VL until week 4 and my virus was still detected same results as yours.        Week 6 undetected and remains UND.

keep us posted.  we're always here supporting one another.
have a great day!

Jill

I wish you all a speedy recovery, its a wonderful thing this drug.

Too bad alot of people are having trouble getting it. I have humana gold, but if I were to be in need, I'd claim indigent/homeless.

I have Blue Cross, but will have to change to Medicare very soon as I turn 65 in January.  I will be able to keep my Blue Cross for 3 months, which will be enough to cover the last bottle of Harvoni - Thank Goodness!

I have "no idea" what Plan D to choose for Medicare.  This insurance thing is such a "game" in this country!

My doctor told me Medicare does not cover Harvoni.  I am on Medicare and retired, but have an employer based prescription coverage.  I was so worried that I would have to fight for this but it went through without a hitch.  I did hear of someone where Medicare covered the S/O treatment but it was a real hassle and I think the co-pay was really high; I don't have any details.  Glad to hear your treatment will be on your other insurance so you don't have to worry about that.

Have a great holiday!

I'd talk to your pharmacist. Roger.  They know what covers what and my experiences with my pharmacist has been very positive. He is SO full of information.

Hi Katie, I was approved thru Medicare part D.

Thank you for telling me that Rise Up!  Maybe they are more selective????  It's good to pass that along as some may not seek out the treatment and a lot of us "boomers" are being diagnosed.  Great news!

Roger, I am covered by my former employer thru the NJ State Health Benefits, Medicare Part D.  The pharmacy is  Acaria Health. Co-pay $45.00.  Feel very blessed I was able to start treatment once again after 14 years.  Today was pill #5, so far no sides.  Praise the Lord!

RiseUp,
You are REALLY blessed!
Maybe your Part D is so good, because it is from a governmental agency?

I have not chosen one yet, but so far, in my county, they all want the customer (me) to pay 25% - 33% of the total.

For Harvoni, that's quite a bite.

Hi Roger.  Please let me know what you decide about part D.    I'm not on medicare yet because my husband is working and has BC/BS but one never knows in this day and age what may happen.

25%-33% is definitely "quite a bite" for harvoni and any other expensive treatment one may need in their "golden" years.

I started Harvoni 11/21/2014 for 12 weeks. Pre-treatment VL was 1.5 million, genotype 1a, grade 1 fibrosis  per biopsy, diagnosed 1999, symptomatic hepatitis 1973. Biopsy X 3 since 1999 that showed grade 1 fibrosis/inflammation each time.

Mike, just curious; with a viral load that low, and such good biopsy results, how'd you ever get them to give and approve you for 12 wks treatment?

Nothing more than visiting with my GI doc on 10/7/2014 who has followed my case since 1999. We discussed future treatment that did not involve interferon, as I was actually assumming I would treat in 2015. I did not know about Harvoni at that visit, but he explained that the FDA was probably going to approve a new drug within the next 2 weeks. I found out the next week about Harvoni, did all the pre-treatment testing and was approved 10/21/2014 for 12 weeks. I started treatment 11/21/2014.

Yes that sounds like a 8 week treatment. But if I had the chance I do 12 over 8. I was approved for just 8 weeks no prior treatment f3 2.5 million vl.

My case is very similar to Mike's.  I waited for 10 years to get something not so long or so harsh and had been following the research.  When I saw Harvoni being available in October, I went to my doctor, had the tests done, was approved for 12 weeks without question.  I have 2.5 million vl (which is the lowest in those 10 years) and fluctuating liver enzymes but mostly normal.  Never had a biopsy as I didn't like the idea of stirring up a compromised organ, and my ultra sounds have all showed my liver in good shape.  I haven't had a drop of alcohol in those 10 years, never did illegal drugs and watched what over the counter meds or antibiotics I was taking to make sure they were the easiest on the liver and think those precautions are helping me out now.  I probably drove my pharmacist crazy but he was really good to me and invaluable.  My nurse practitioner warned me insurance was only approving those who were the sickest so I was really surprised and am grateful I am getting the full 12 weeks.  I have good prescription insurance and am one of the very lucky ones.
