Completed 12 weeks Harvoni
« on: January 16, 2015, 06:47:11 pm »
I took my last pill yesterday and my 12 week labs as well.  I have also been on Ribavirin for the last 5 weeks of Harvoni.  vl was 1.5 million (no cirrhosis) when I started treatment in October (treatment naive as I was just diagnosed in April 2014).  My 4 week vl was <15, as was my 8 week.  My dr was confused and concerned as to why the virus was still detectable. She started the ribavirin even though the study showed no advantage because she wanted to give me the best chance possible in beating this.  I didn't experience many side affects from either.  A few headaches in the beginning of both and a little fatigue lately.  Now it feels strange to not take anything and just to be waiting for the results!  I am still uncertain where I contracted the virus, but we think I was possibly exposed to Hep A in April and it awakened the sleeping C.  Perhaps a nose straw long ago in another life......I'm not going to question that because it really doesn't matter.  Sorry to go for so long. I just felt like sharing my Harvoni experience because I know so many are researching it's affects.  I should have my test results early next week and will share them.  Good luck to all who are fighting this!

Congratulations JillLynn. So now we wait with you.

Brad - I have to tread carefully so not to offend any Seattle fans, but I can safely say that most 49ers fans (of which I am one) would love to see the Packers go to the SB. Hope you are celebrating at the end of the day.

Oh,  The Agony Of Deafeat!!!   :o :'(

That is my only side effect right now.

Actually, I am feeling very well. I did not have too many problems before treatment other than digestive issues. IBS they say. That has gotten considerably better. I had some eye issues that would cause severe headaches for 2-3 days at a time. I have not had any eye/headache issues since halfway through treatment. It's nice!
I  did have the normal treatment side effects but nothing lasting.
Yes my SVR12 test is Two weeks from tomorrow. Here we are at the crossroads I'm pullin' for ya! Positive your negative!

Hi Lucky,
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Im not sure why your doc was concerned. If your 4 and 8 week test was <15 that is undetectable. The test results show <15 because they cant detect lesser amounts of the virus. At least thats what I read :-)  You are going to be fine.

Hi Paleface

My lab report has a note explaining the meaning

The quantitative range of the assay is 15 IU/mL to 100 million IU/mL
using COBAS(R) TaqMan(R) HCV test, v 2.0. The limit of detection (LOD)
and lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) for this assay is 15 IU/mL.
Results less than the quantitative range of the assay will be reported
as "HCV RNA detected, less than 15 IU/mL".

So <15 still means detected just below the level of the ability of the test to quantify(count) think quantity. It means there is still an indication of the presence of the virus. The virus is still detected.

This is what my most recent lab says:

HCV RNA RT-PCR, QT   HCV Not Detected

which means what is says the test cannot detect the presence of virus at all
