Treatment Info For Geno's 2,3 and 4
« on: February 26, 2015, 12:25:09 pm »
What types of treatment do docs recommend for the less-common hepatitis C strains in the U.S.?

Genotype 2: Sovaldi + ribavirin for 12 weeks; 16 weeks if you have cirrhosis.

Genotype 3: There are options, but you may want to wait for the next generation of hep C drugs called NS5A inhibitors to hit the market.

Genotype 4: If you’re angling for Harvoni or Viekira Pak, the tricky thing will be reimbursement without the FDA’s stamp of approval.

Hi, I just completed 12 weeks of treatment for GT3a in a clinical trial with AbbVie's next generation NS3/4A inhibitor (ABT-493) and next gen NS5A inhibitor (ABT-530) without ribavirin. My VL went to <25 in one week and UND in 3 weeks (where it remained thru the EOT). These two drugs are the next generation of paritaprevir and ombitasvir, respectively, which are in Vikera Pak. The new drugs are said to be pan-genotypic, and have particular high potency against GT3 and a high barrier to resistance. ABT-530 also showed a synergistic effect with ABT-493 in vitro. All of that and no side effects at all! (at least for me) Sounds very promising for GT's other than 1!! This was a phase 2 trial of 80 patients in the US, with the goal to start phase 3 later this year/early next year, combining the drugs into one pill (at least that's what I read).  Will post later when I get my SVR 12 results (positive thinking)!
