Where do you fill your Harvoni prescription
« on: March 20, 2015, 01:21:38 pm »
Hi all,

I am wondering where I should take my prescription to be filled. Do I have to use a mail order pharmacy or can I take it to the local CVS? And have them order it? My doc said I can take it anywhere - but I feel like it must be wrong?

Mine comes from a specialty pharmacy that is approved by my Rx. plan carrier.

Thanks Chino. How did you find out to use that pharmacy, were you directed by your provider?

I talked to my insurance company, who referred me to their specialty pharmacy. They suggested I have my physician call the order in directly to them. We'll see what happens!

Praying!

In most cases newer and expensive medications like this require a specialty pharmacy.  In my case as soon as I was approved it was set up and they contacted me and 3 days later by courier I had my first bottle (4weeks).

I justfinished my 2nd week and will call to arrange refill next week to ensure that i have it in hand before end of week 4

I have Express Scripts and their specialty Pharmacy is Accredo.

Basically I have to go through them unless I want to pay full price for the meds. All my meds for a new prescription take about a week or more to be approved then several more days to be shipped UPS 2 day. Dunno why they are called Express Scripts should be Slow Scripts

Good one Lynn K!
Excruciatingly Slow Scripts assisted by Alwaysmessingupisourcredo.

Sorry Catladyx you have a valid question - we just have all been through much pharmacy drama on this journey.

You need to call the specialty pharmacy and find out exactly what they require. Take notes, take full names, and dates and then contact your doctor and make sure all instructions are followed to the letter.
Then call back in 24 to 48 hours to follow up on both the specialty pharm and your doctor. Take notes, take names, write dates. Repeat until you have your meds in your hands.

You must focus on being an advocate for yourself and not leave anything to chance because what can go wrong will with these large specialty pharmacies.

Technically, you can take your prescription to any pharmacy, just like your doctor says.  Whether or not they can actually fill it for you is another story, and more than likely they will refer you to one of the aforementioned specialty pharmacies.  The good news is they should at least be able to give you the information you need to call them directly instead of having to deal with it through your insurance company.

In my case, I took the written prescription to my local pharmacy at Walgreens, who then referred me to Accredo.  I called them and gave them all my information, and they got in contact with my doctor to fill the script.  They called me back a couple of days later for some more information (which was actually like a 45 minute phone call; they have a lot of questions) anda week later I had the meds in hand.

I never once had to talk to my insurance company, or my doctor again for that matter.  Everything is done directly through Accredo for me.  It's been a pretty streamlined, hassle-free process, which really surprised me because I was sure I would have to jump through countless hoops to get the ball rolling based on some of the horror stories I've heard.

My docs office set it all up. My insurance uses CuraScript and they have been AMAZING!

My doctor sent in the prescription to Express Scripts wait for a week called in was told I was disapproved but would have to wait for official denial letter via mail so another week. Plus the people on the phone could not read the text of the letter because they could not pronounce many of the drug names or medical terms

Meanwhile I acvidently ran a cross an email address expressrxhelp@express-scripts.com where I was able to contact a real human who was knowledgeable who could work my situation. I an sure this cut a lot of time and possibly is the only reason I was even able to get the meds. From frustrated emall by me to phone call the next day to meds in hand 1 day later that accidental address find made all the difference for me and a few othes who were also fighting with express scripts.

Just crazy man just crazy

sorry you had to go through all that, as I did not. If you have more scripts coming, I would recommend you start working on the refill at least 10 days prior to make sure there is no lag.  Again if any of you out there can use CuraScript, DO SO, as they are responsible and supportive and even took the time to advise ME of needed refills.

Fortunately I am getting my last bottle (number 6) of Harvoni next Wednesday yay!

I told them I had about 12 days left (really had 18) and the said the would sent the following week which if I was accurate in the days remaining of 12 would have given me just 3 pills on hand when the shipment arrived. For what ever reason they only want to send when I have a minimum number of pills left which is why I fudged my numbers a bit. I mean really the pills come from Tennessee what if there is a winter storm that messing up shopping and causes a delay, I run out of meds???

Hopefully this will be the last time I need to do speciality pharmacy through express scripts Accredo it is a maddening experience and I am a captive audience it is my work insurance and my only option.

Well for me 24 weeks but how about 3 months and 3 months. Or maybe 1 month to make sure I am tolerating the meds then 2 months and 3. Had to wait 6 different times and late to work to receive my signature required shipment or drive miles to the nearest UPS store to pick up next day. Grrrr
