elevated ALT levels and 4 oral sex partners in the past year
« on: March 30, 2015, 09:24:14 pm »
Hi, hopefully this is nothing, but I have an ALT level of 68, and a few sexual partners. All my sexual contact has been receptive (I'm a male) or oral vaginal, with one oral anal encounter about a year ago. For anything else, I've used condoms.

Is this enough to worry about? What are my chances of having hepatitis?

I just got a hep test, and I'll get the results later this week, and I'm very, very scared.

I do lift weights 3 times a week, take tylenol maybe once a week, and am slightly overweight, eatinga lot of fast food. Could these factors be responsible for my elevated ALT? And is 68 enough to worry about?

You didn't mention alcohol or other drug use. By any chance were you drinking the day before the test? May I assume you had your hep B vaccine?

I may have had a beer. Most I ever drink is one a day, and not every day. No intravenous drug use, either.

I should have mentioned I've tested negative for syphillis, chlamydia, ghonnorea, and HIV since my last encounter and am now in a committed relationship, so if I get cleared of this I'll be good.

I have so much anxiety now

I am more concerned about your anxiety than I am about this being hep C. I hope for your sake you get the results quickly.

so is what I did low risk? And is that enzyme not elevated enough to worry?

My doctor was going to do the test in a month, but because of anxiety I couldn't wait that long

The oral sex was low risk; receptive anal sex slightly higher - not a lot of reports about this, but there have been some. The enzymes are high enough to be concerned enough to get them checked out.

should have mentioned the anal was oral anal on a woman, I'm straight. I was the inservitive partner, I guess, sorry I have trouble talking about sexual things.

You should ask your doctor about your elevated ALT. Hep C is not generally considered to be an STD but not impossible. As Lucinda said your anxiety is of greater concern perhaps than anything else you have possibly going on.

Have you discussed your anxiety and excessive worry with your doctor? They maybe able to help or refer you to someone who can.

If worse case you do have hep c it is very treatable today with minimal side effects, short treatment duration and a high cure rate. So either you do not have hep c then no worries or even if you do have hep c, get treated, get cured, no worries.

So no worries either way.
Good luck

Oh heck, I misunderstood - I didn't realize that all these encounters were male-female and that you were the insertive partner. In short, I'd be shocked if you were positive for hep C given these situations.
