Question/Opinions/Exposure
« on: April 08, 2015, 06:45:59 pm »
Hi all,

My situation started 4 months ago. I unknowingly received oral sex from an HIV positive woman, and had protected vaginal sex with her (lots of her caginal fluid did get on my hand and the base of my shaft though.) I have tested negative for HIV out to 3 months. I have reasons to suspect this woman may have hepatitis as she is a drug user and lives in the streets which I found out later.

Noticeable symptoms that started immediately is constipation and loose stool movements that were clay colored. I also had this intense pain in the right side of my chest, it was intense and lasted for 3 days. It comes back if I consume any alcohol. I developed sinus infections, dry skin with dermatitis on my scalp, dry spots on my penis that cracked and bled, herpes lesions (I had HSV1 for 2 years, break ours occur near my rectum but these were intense and lasted long periods of time, I would never break out before this.) at the second month my legs burned for 2 days. Stomach issues still continue and its leaving me feeling debilitated.

I was tested for Hep the last time at 4 weeks post exposure and never again. My girlfriend was tested 6 weeks post exposure to me (we had sex but I was told I wasn't at risk for HIV) and she had elevated liver enzymes.

Should I retest for hep? Do these symptoms sound anything like it? I've never had jaundice just felt like crap for 4 months and can't seem to poo anymore.

Ask your doctor for their recommendations. Are you asking about hepatitis A, B, or C?

Hepatitis c often has no or very minimal symptoms for decades. Testing for hep c is generally conclusive after 6 months post exposure. However hep c is not considered to be a sexually transmitted disease in a monogamous long term couple situation so in the senario you described there could be limited risk.

With so many serious STD's I would recommend in the future you use barrier protection so you have less to worry about in the future.

The symptoms you describe do not sound like they are liver related. But for a proper diagnosis of what you are experiencing see your doctor.

We here are patients coming here for support and to share information about hepatitis and our experiences on treatment the majority of us do not work in the medical field.
