harvoni test results at week 5
« on: April 13, 2015, 06:29:55 pm »
Another Harvoni report from Genotype 1a.  Started in early March with a VL around 6million.  At the end of 5 weeks, my latest results are below detection limits.  Good news for spring.  Hope that those last little ba$t@rds are wiped out within a few more weeks.

Good luck to everyone else on treatment!

Great! It seems week 5 or 6 is the breaking point for many. My husband was 4 million at the start, then week 2 76, week 4 <15 and week 6 UD. Hope it lasts for you all the way to the end and beyond. Congrats!

Thanks all.  This is the first blood test that I have had since starting.  Are others testing on a weekly basis?  Just curious as this appeals to me as a science geek to watch the virus levels in a death spiral.... :)

Ho Corey

I test every two weeks. Every other thursday. Just did my second two week test (4 weeks) last thursday the 9th. My doc @ Henry Ford Hospital Detroit Campus put in a standing order so all I have to do is show up. Fortunately for me, I don't have to drive downtown since there is a satalite facility about 3 miles from my house.

Another good thing is that I can access my lab results online. I get an email telling me when the test results come in. I like the idea of being able to see my results, first hand, rather then have to call or wait and get the results. During my last three Tx's I went online and learned what all the test were and how to read them. They can be confusing if you don't know what you're looking at.
Pre Tx (VL 12043488) ALT 52/ AST 39
Harvoni Start Date 03/12

Blood work done the first week of March. Two weeks in next blood work will be at 8 weeks. I'm on a twelve week treatment of Harvoni. I feel much better than I have in years. I'm not sure if it's the medication or if it's I don't have as many toxins flowing threw my body because I'm getting rid of this monkey on my back.  :) But what ever it is I like it.

I started March 17th on Harvoni and just got my 4 week blood test results back. Everything is in normal range and HVC quantitative is undetectable. After 25+ years with HCV, my question is when should I start feeling significantly better? I have had spurts of energy when I feel totally normal which is amazing while it lasts.

So excited to be getting rid of this terrible disease!

Sisterbland, you're well on you way. My experience is that the Harvoni continues to cause side effects (headaches, tiredness or whatever), so you won't feel clear till you end treatment and then folks say it takes several days for the drug to clear your system). Be patient. I'm starting my last bottle tomorrow. 70 pills down, 14 pills to go.

I recall that my doctor said something to the effect of, everyone becomes UND at some point on Harvoni, but SVR12 is the only thing we need to be concerned with. I didn't question him, but I may put a call in to ask if I'm going to have any testing during the 12 week treatment plan. I began treatment on 3/28/15 so I'm just past the 4 week mark.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with their doctor?

Hi sabre

Not myself personally but I have seen a couple of 8 weekers who did no testing till post EOT.

The on treatment tests mean nothing although they are encouraging for us to see. The on treatment test results do not change the course of your treatment.

The only test that matters is the 12 week post. All the on treatment tests do is just make us feel good (or nervous if say your result is less than 15 detected) but our insurance pays about $400 a pop for them and they don't mean anything.

Good luck on treatment

Hi Lynn,

Thank you for your input and I agree. I've read enough posts here and on other forums where people are nervous because they're detected at various stages in their treatment. I'd prefer not to ruminate if I were to test, and test detected.

I'm leaning toward just waiting it out and having hope that I'll be one of the majority who achieve SVR.

Best wishes to you as you approach the finish line!

Lynn- I know you have probably posted this somewhere but why did your DR. add RIBA if you were UND at 4 weeks? Just to double triple make sure it stayed that way?

I failed interferon based treatment 3 times as a null responder (my viral load increased on treatment). I relapsed after 12 weeks of Sovaldi and Olysio last year after being not detected at week 4 and EOT. I have liver cirrhosis for over 7 years now with portal hypertension and developed esophageal varicies that had to be banded. I have had hep c for 37 years.

This is basically my last shot at a cure. If this doesn't work why would anything coming later work? I could decompensate basically at any time and need a liver transplant.

I saw a YouTube video of a round table discussion of some hep c experts discussing some of last years AASLD conference highlights. When the came to a situation with a patient like myself they all agreed they would give that patient the best chance of a cure and add Ribavirin.

I sent a message to my doctor and asked about adding riba and she agreed. She also said maybe it would have been an idea to add the Riba from the beginning of tx.

If you look at the study with Harvoni and Ribavirin with child "B" and "C" decompensated cirrhotics they had better results treating them with Ribavirin and actually for decompensated cirrhotics the recommended treatment per the AASLD treatment guidelines is 12 weeks of Harvoni and 600 mg Ribavirin increasing as tolerated.

My Doctor mentioned RIVA at the beginning also
He said I could do 12 weeks of Harvoni/Riva instead of 24 Harvoni
We didn't want to rock the boat with insurance so he just went with 24 weeks Harvoni.  Now of course I am 2nd guessing everything.

Good luck Lynn.  I wish you the very best and everlasting SVR

I think you are treatment naive right?

The odds are more in your favor than they are in mine and mine are pretty good!

If I can beat this thing it will just show how darned effective this drug is.
