24 days after using Harvoni
« on: April 23, 2015, 07:31:19 am »
Hi, all. My childhood friend that's living in China was diagnosed with HCV type2A. Her doctor in Hong Kong recommended Harvoni(after research, I see this medication is for type 1). So far it has been 24 days since she started to use it. She wanted me to help her getting some info on whether she should keep taking them since Harvoni is not cheap. Please bare with me since I don't know how to translate stats she send me. So before she started taking the meds. Her HCV-RNA is 8.601x10^7. 1 pill a day. After 21 days her RNA is at 47.2. Is there anything else I need to know from her or is this good enough. Per my friend, her blood, liver and kidney all seems to function properly( on paper). Really appreciate anyone that can help me. Thank you.

I've never heard anyone suggest that you should stop taking Harvoni before the prescribed treatment plan, whether it's 8 or 12 or 24 weeks. Just the opposite. My caregiver grills me to be sure I never miss a pill.

Harvoni is a NS5A inhibitor...missing just one pill can pose a threat to the entire treatment due to the high resistance developed after treatment initiation.once treated with this drug we will never be able to take another NS5A inhibitor again, which is why strict adherence to the tx is detrimental to achieve the end result we are all hoping to achieve! Please tell your friend to take her pill everyday,no matter what......best wishes!!!
