Did I get it or no?
« on: January 24, 2016, 02:00:40 am »
Hey! So a few weeks ago I went for the first time to a nail salon with my friend. And I did not know what to expect. The lady didn t appear to sterilize the ustensils and when she was filing my nails she razed my skin with an emery file. I bled a bit as she stopped. The file did not came in contact with my blood and she imediately cleaned it and sprayed it with alcohol. I didn t see blood on the file... Please advise. Can I get hep b or c this way? And sorry for my mistakes. English is not my first language.

Very unlikely hep c required blood to blood contact. Blood from a hep c infected person would have to enter your blood stream. Even an accidental needle stick for a health care worker from a needle used on a patient known to be infected with hep c the risk is about 1.8%

If you are still concerned get a hepatitis c antibody test in 6 months. But really I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you so much for your kind response. I read all kinds of crazy stuff on the internet about how people said they got hep c reaaaally easy.

But what about hep b? Oh, and the last time I was vaccinated was in 2002.

Yeah hep c is not very easy to catch.

Sorry don't know about hep b. I am, or more accurately was, a hep c patient but now this year cured by the new treatments.

Best bet would be to ask your doctor. But if you did the hep b series I would think you are likely still protected

Here is a link to a web site for the CDC FAQ for the public about hep b
