Day 3 Harvoni - The TX train is rolling!!!
« on: June 27, 2015, 09:58:20 pm »
Well, I am at day 3 and so far so good!  :)  Day one had me feeling a bit "off" in the head, slight nausea and chemical taste in my throat and start of a headache, day two and I started ok and then got heartburn that lasted all day but I am pretty sure it was from the breakfast burrito I ate as it had spicy sausage in it.  :P Today though I feel... well, I feel normal! No headache, no nausea, don't have the taste in my throat or anything. I was kind of worried as I had an outdoor event I had to work today and it is about 110 degrees and very humid but amazingly I felt really good. I am following the advice of drinking LOTS of water and feel that is helping me.

3 down, 53 to go and the train is picking up speed!!  ;D

Peace out everyone!

Good work, Robin! Glad to hear it is going well. Remember, if you get heartburn again (not uncommon), don't take any antacids within 4 hours of the harvoni. And yes, the water does seem to help with any sides! :)

best,

Hi Everyone !
Sabre - so glad to hear you didn't have and sides to speak of! Gives me hope!! When did you end your treatment and how are your tests so far? Great I hope!! ;D

Kim~ I read about the antacids so no I made sure not to take any. I ate some yogurt to try to help it in the afternoon (yes, I suffered for hours) as I am almost paranoid about anything that will stop absorption of the medication. I have even been looking at my powdered coffee creamer funny as I take my meds in the morning. Figure I will go with a liquid coffee creamer or just plan black for the duration! ;)

One thing I was wondering was how many people doing the 8 week treatment are achieving 12 and 24 SVR vs relapse? What I read seems to be a hit and miss on gathering info. Any clues? I am keeping up hopes that because of my low numbers I will be able to achieve it however am as always curious about it!
Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed day!

way to go Robin for starting the journey !  it's a strange and mysterious feeling getting started , you'll be sensitive to every little thing wondering if there side effects , ......my first week was the worst , first 3 days major fatigue , started feeling better the 4th day then the next 3 days a 24/7 headache . 2nd week started feeling good and continue to feel better , im at week 8 now with 8 to go . im geno2 with cirrhosis.
if your liver is f1/f2 and treatment naive i believe 8 week tx is the protocol , get test's before you run out of med's to make sure your heading the right direction in case you need an extension (i know, insurance issues) ........

fight the good fight !...........K

Sabre , congrats for sailing through this so well !!!!

Hi Kal ~
thank you for the support! Sorry to hear you are having a few bumps in the road however it sounds like you are keeping your spirits up! I am on the straight Harvoni which I hear makes it a bit easier vs Harvoni/Sovaldi and Riba. Congrats on your 4 week undetected and praying that you sail through this!
I have am supposed to have labs at 4 weeks and hopefully 6 weeks - am going to talk to my doctor about it to make sure I can get more meds if I need them. My meds were supplied by the Support Path program from Gilead so hopefully there won't be any problems if it needs to be extended.
All in all though I am counting blessings. Almost the end of day 4 and so no sides at all today.
Look forward to hearing from you as you progress!!!

Hi Robin,

My end date was 6/19. The first and only labs I had were done on 6/17. Liver enzymes (ALT and AST) are down from the high 100s to the low to mid normal range and I'm thrilled about that. Give my liver a break after 35 years.

In terms of my VL, I'm on ice since my doctor has yet to call with my results. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll hear something.

I hope you're well. Take care,

sabre

Hi Sabre!
Am glad to hear about your AST/ALT levels! That is an awesome response!!! I see that your VL was pretty low so I am praying with all confidence that your VL will be undetected!!!
Did you do an 8 wk or 12 wk tx? They have me down for 8 so we will see how things go. So far though I only felt off a bit the first two days. Days 3 and 4 felt pretty darn good and just started day 5. If they all go like this I will be tickled!
Please keep me posted when you get your results ok!!!
Peace out! ~ Robin

Hi Robin,

Thank you so much for the well wishes!

My protocol was 8 weeks, however, my insurance approved 12 so my doctor suggested that I go with that. So 12 it was!

That's great that you're feeling well! Chances are good that it'll be smooth sailing for you. I carried about as usual during treatment...lifted weights and did cardio workouts, worked, etc.

I put another call in about my VL. Hopefully I get that today. Will keep you posted.

Take care and best wishes,

sabre

Hello Sabre!
It was nice that your insurance approved for 12 weeks even though protocol called for 8 - extra probably can't hurt!!  :D
I went to Dr this morning for something unrelated however I got to see the NP who started that HCV clinic in my area last year. I saw him the first time and then he moved to another clinic so I had't seen him in a bit. I told him I was on treatment and started last week. He asked how I did it and I told him the steps my other NP and clinic went through to get it. He told me he was prescribing Harvoni for about 15 people a week with most being approved. I asked him about the "cure " rate and he said almost all of them. He thinks he had one or two who didn't achieve SVR.  ;D
I told him my stats as he had moved clinics before they came back and he told me "Hep C will not be a worry for you anymore!" I AM CLAIMING THAT!!!!!!!!
Another good thing was my BP. 112/72 - yippeee! I had heard that BP can go up so glad mine was staying low.
I am lifting prayers for good news for you when you get your results and look forward to hearing from you soon!!

Hi Robin,

Just got my EOT lab results: UNDETECTED! I'm now on the wait list...12 week labs to be done in September.

Glad to read that your BP is not rising. Mine did but was/is managed by medication.

Thank you so much for the well wishes and I hope you're still doing well!

Hello All~
Thought I would check in and update on my tx train! I am now at day 18 and am having no sides at all. I am sleeping well, eating well, less body pain and my skin is clearing up and not so dry. Even with the extreme heat where I live (Mojave Desert) I am having no problems at all. Harvoni is absolutely amazing in that respect.
I have my first follow up with Dr. this coming Thursday (3 week) and one the following week. Not sure when he will do blood draw for labs yet. Honestly though, I am not worried about it. The way my body feels I believe I have this dragon beat.
Hope everyone else does just as well and peace and blessings to everyone!

That's great, Robin. When I was treating, I definitely could feel that the medication was working its magic. After 54 years of this world, 34 with HCV, I know my body.

Good luck with your upcoming appointment and please keep us posted!

Hi Robin,

I feel really good, actually! In terms of my energy level, it's definitely better than pre-treatment. I've always been fairly active, but in the past, if I'd be out and about all day, I'd be ready for a nap by 3 or 4 PM.

A couple of weekends ago, I was out doing various activities for most of the day and I realized in the late afternoon that I still felt energetic. As a matter of fact, I came home and did an upper body weight lifting routine. So yeah, I'm a happy guy. I wish everyone who treated would be as fortunate as I am.

Take care, Robin!

ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO ~ ANOTHER TOWN AND ONE MORE SHOW! Well, today was day 28 of my 8 week Harvoni treatment!!! 28 more to go to SVR! I was up at 6:00 am and was at the hospital by 6:40 for blood draws before work. Have an appointment on August 4 with doctor to get results. Gonna be hard to wait 2 weeks but he will be on vacation next week so have no choice. Maybe I can have him check in while he is gone so he can call me? ::) Anyway, feeling pretty darn good lately and am looking forward to the next month!
Peace out~Robin

Hi Holly!!!!
Welcome and I am tickled that you are participating! ;D There are a lot of nice people here who will happily help you walk this road and you are going to do just fine on Harvoni I am sure. For me the tx has been so easy with no sides except really mild the first two days. If you have read through some of the topics you will see that the best advice is to drink LOTS of water. It really does help.
And thank you for the good wishes!! I will be sure to share my results when I get them! Check in any time you have questions or just want to chat!
Peace out~ Robin
