liver ultrasound
« on: June 27, 2015, 10:05:41 pm »
Next week I go in for my 24 week post s/o treatment blood work.  I hope everything is fine.
Last week I got a ultrasound done on my liver.  Findings were.  Liver:  Increased in echogenicity and demonstrates smooth contours.  The right lobe of the liver measures near the upper limits of normal size at 16.4 cm.  No focal masses are noted.  There is no intrahepatic biliary dilatation.   Doppler evaluation:  Patency of the portal veins, hepatic veins, and splenic vein was demonstrated.  Normally directed flow in the portal veins is seen.  spleen is normal in size and appearance.
Does anybody know what it means when they say  Increased in echogenicity,  and patency of portal veins, hepatic veins, and splenic vein.   Are these thing bad or what.   Thanks and hope everyone is doing fine,   Trapper

An increase in echogenicity could suggest diffuse fatty infiltration (fat in the liver).

Best wishes, Mike
