Heads up hep C-positive people! A new study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology says relying on liver biopsies alone to diagnose cirrhosis likely misses up to 75% of cases!!

I guess the gold standard isnt so golden anymore!  Thats a real bummer, because heretofore, it was the most accurate and reliable indicator of liver condition.   The noninvasive tests have always been known to be unreliable in the middle ranges at least.  So what are we left with thats better?   Maybe the biopsy can still be used for determination of liver condition if its in the F0-F2 range, but should be teamed with Fibroscan, for instance, which might now be the better option for detecting cirrhosis..?
