I just found out that I am positive for Hep C and just started a new job. I must of contracted Hep C through getting a few tatoo's in 77 or 85 while in the military. Does anyone know if your employer can see what you are being treated for through their insurance?

Hi Hope4help,

The answer is absolutely not. Your employer is not entitled to any of your medical records and you do not have to disclose anything to them. You have HIPPA protection that ensure that your medical records are confidential and there are stiff penalties (including criminal prosecution) for any violation or unauthorized use of your medical/health information.

Your insurer can not release any of your health or medical records without written permission from you. The only exception would be a court order.

I hope this helps and let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best wishes, Mike

That would be a HIPPA violation!  Which means you could sue the heck out of them if they did!
