Yay! I made SVR4 !
« on: September 01, 2015, 12:22:11 pm »
YAY! My labs just came back and I am still UNDETECTED 4 weeks post-treatment!  :D :D :D

I had been worried because I developed a mystery malaise shortly after finishing treatment. It had me in bed with fever and fatigue for at least 2 weeks, and I have been weak and pretty much dysfunctional the rest of the time. (Had no such problems during treatment.) But at least it is not Hep C. That’s the important thing!   :D

The other good news is that, whatever my mystery malaise was, it is finally lifting and is substantially gone now. I have an appointment with my GP today, but there is not much for her to do or check at this point. I am 5 weeks post-tx as of today.

I think my main problem was that I got very depleted during treatment. I did not have much problem with side effects in terms of any physical discomfort – no headaches, no nausea, no aches or pains. And I was going around leading my normal life while on treatment. But I could hardly eat, I lost 10 pounds, I never once got a proper night’s sleep, and my hemoglobin was below 100 g/L from Week 4 until very recently. Last week it crawled back up to 104, but that is still below normal.

In retrospect, I would urge anyone else having severe problems eating while on treatment to go out and find a high quality protein shake, or try medical marijuana for appetite recovery, or anything else that works to get some nutrients in you.

So glad to still be on the road to being cured! Keep the faith, everyone. You can do it!

Congratulations Kim!! I can't wait until I can say the same, that won't be for a while since I will be only starting my treatment next week. I've been following this forum and your posts the last couple of weeks, I get so excited when I see success stories, especially with genotype 3a

Thanks Sookiesue. It's great that you are starting treatment next week! Sounds like you will be saying goodbye to Hep C in 2016. Phenomenal times we are living in right now.

Oh, Kim, had I only known, I would have sent you my extra 20 lbs that I am now toting around! Funny what different SE can occur. I am 3 days now past EOT and feeling fine (and fat), although somewhat lethargic - but I've never been a bubbling fount of energy anyways. So great to hear your good news! Looking forward to hearing about your SVR 12!

Kim, this is so awesome! You've jumped that first hurdle!!!! Such wonderful news! I'm pretty positive you have an SVR in your near future!

Party woman, have some ice cream or whatever your favorite is! When I was having trouble eating on treatment, small meals through out the day seemed to help, have you tried that?

Thank you Teri & Philadelphia!

Yes Teri, I am having some party food tonight! :) My appetite finally came back about 5 days ago, so at last I can eat normally again. Most of my other post-tx problems are disappearing now that I can eat again. So I think inadequate nutrition was at the crux of it. I found that during treatment I really just had to eat whatever I could whenever I could get it down.

My Ins won't pay for 4 wk post, I take 12 wk post on October 19 and see Doc on November 2nd. My Cancer Doc says that the lymphoma should not return since I am SVR and it was connected to the Hep C.

I am busy trying to get rid or sell 20 years of crap to move into a small house (built in 1893) in Nebraska, I live in a larger house in the Kansas City area of Kansas. I can't afford the payments with my wife going on permanent disability and me on Social Security. It's my wife's family home in rural Nebraska (I'm a city boy from New York City, I will be bored).
Thanks for asking

I forgot to ask how are you feeling? My energy level seems to be slowly going up, today I replaced the drive shafts universal joints on my pick up truck (took almost all day fighting rust its 13 years old.

I just have cramps (not as bad, Doc approves of my self treatment) and bad heartburn.

I can't afford the payments with my wife going on permanent disability and me on Social Security. It's my wife's family home in rural Nebraska (I'm a city boy from New York City, I will be bored).

I have to say, an 1893 house in rural Nebraska sounds absolutely charming to me! I have "back to the land" fantasies that have been running in my mind for decades, and for some reason I have never been able to fulfill them. I am also very anti-wireless radiation - no cell phones, cordless phones, wifi, smart meters, etc. This rural farmhouse might be a very low EMF/RF environment. You cannot believe how many people are in desperate need of that kind of radiation-free environment right now and are searching everywhere with no luck.

Maybe Nebraska in winter would get old fast - I don't know. It won't be NYC, that's for sure. I hope you report back to us, Rich! Would love to see a photo of that 1893 house.

And great news that your lymphoma is likely gone! I was hoping that would be the case. Have been reading about how the HCV-related lymphoma disappears once the Hep C virus is gone.

My energy and health are finally improving after taking quite a downturn post-tx. Appetite back to normal, fever gone, cough almost gone, hardly any cramping. Just some fatigue. My hemoglobin and red blood cells are still below normal.

Good luck to you and your wife, Rich! :)

I remember seeing in another post that SVR at 4 weeks post puts you at 99% chance of clearing for SVR 12.

Thanks Scout! :) Speaking from experience (of how sick I got post-tx from being so depleted during tx), I now know how important it is to keep nutrients going in during treatment even if the side effects make it hard or impossible to eat normally. If I had it to do over I would:
1) get a high quality protein shake and take it daily (Ultra Nourish Liver Support Vegetarian Superfood is probably the one I would try first - not trying to promote any product here, it's just the one that looks the best to me from my research);
2) have my GP regularly check my iron and B12 and anything else like that that I might be getting deficient in if I am unable to eat;
3) take iron and B12 shots to correct it if necessary. I am going in to my GP next week for those 2 shots because I did become quite deficient in iron and B12, and that is probably why my hemoglobin and red blood cells still have not gone back to normal range 5 weeks post-tx.
