I read somewhere here that ribavirin is traceable in plasma for around 4 weeks? I think. But is in tissue, cells, muscle etc for up to 6 months! Mmmmm gotta love the ribas! I haven't investigated the Viekira Pak yet, there's so many darn drugs in them!  :)Cal

Cal... and everyone.  I was anxiously awaiting the VL test post treatment.  So I got the test results today and they did the wrong one!!!  They did HBV... thank you doctor, infectious disease specialist!  Really builds confidence huh.  (Well, at least I know I don't have HBV!)

This test was ordered when I saw him at 6 week mark on treatment and not scheduled to see him again until 3 weeks post after we got EOT results (which I get when they come in via the portal).  I even contacted the nurse to make certain the VL test was ordered before I went for the blood draw.  It was supposed to be done within one week EOT.  Yep, she said it's ordered.  It's all in the computer so I don't actually see the order.

Since I have been sick with this flu (and still am), I really extra wanted confirmation for my mental and emotional health.  So, now I have to make certain he orders the correct test, go back and wait another week.  Guess I might as well relax about it.  Out of my control.  I had a really bad experience at this last blood draw... I'll go in with stronger boundaries this time around.

These test are so important to us... we go through the mill for treatment.  I wish folks wouldn't be so damn cavalier about it!

I still feel positive about things, despite being sick and everything else.

Oh Bree,
You poor thing. That is unacceptable. How do they manage to be so consistently. Wrong? Practice I guess. Yes it's out of your control now, and you are unwell, so try to have a stress free week. It will be UND but you need to see it, I understand. Thinking of you. Cal :)

Thanks Cal!  I needed a little empathy today.  You made me laugh.  Here I ran in on Monday to get results by Friday, thought I wouldn't get them till Monday and I got them on Saturday, only to be wrong test.

We all make mistakes and I know he's a smart guy, but seriously!  I'm glad I didn't have him do a biopsy!  He has a huge ego, I'll be surprised if he apologizes.  One of those.  I struggled with him this entire time and look the other way as he wrote the script and understands this disease clinically.

So when I start my thread on the other side "Making the Most of Post" I guess I might as well start "Making the Most" now. More lessons...err opportunities.

Yes, in my heart I know it's undetected.

You're welcome poor Bree.
My Doctor is lovely and I have his mobile number to call him anytime and he's available to me. I just feel I shouldn't bother him and get my GP to call instead! I'm such a baby.

There are a lot if egos in this Medical world. I wonder if a crazed RIBA eager has gone off their nut? Rightly so too, good on them.

Ha Marianne,  thanks for asking.... I think the question is are you feeling better? ;).  Nothing I can do about the re-test until doc re-orders hmmm, the correct one, on Monday.  Let's hope he's in his office on Monday.

I had an fantastic event at sunset last night.  Drove a golf cart to this pristine cliff in one of the most beautiful places on earth.  Instantly I felt better... pure joy.  That helped a lot!

I'm starting to feel a little better each day... sleeping a little better too, each day builds a better day.  I'm still struggling with this flu thing but feel I have passed the half way mark.  I took dogs to doggie park and walked 3 miles (best walk in a long time), singing to my ipod all the way!  I really want to build on this type of freedom and "song in my heart".  It's a good thing.  8)  Just waiting for my body to catch up.  I think I need to give it time... it's been through quite a bit!  Thank you body, for hanging in there and supporting me all this way :)

Bree,
You're pretty strong yourself kiddo! Yes we need someone on our side in this war. The internist sounds special.  You are so full of life you inspire me. I too will face post tx with appreciation to be there. Not with despair that I don't feel fab yet! I know my poor old bod has taken a. Serious beating so far.  It will need love and care for a while. It's so important to be like you and remain grateful and happy no matter what the body is saying. Love your work. Cal 8)

O.k. got EOT blood test done... again.  The Doc actually apologized! (Miracles never cease). More like..."sorry about that".  He said that when he clicks Hepc test both Hepc and Hepb come up and it has happened a couple of times.  I was thinking .... well, if it has happened a couple of times... might be a good idea to pay close attention to which box is checked.  But, the new me Bree let it slide.

There also did another Comp and CBC... I told them I had those done last week and she said I could have every month if I wanted and this is a new month.  Who am I to argue?

Anyway, expecting great results and feeling better every day all in all.

Bree, glad you're feeling better every day.

It wasn't all that long ago that doctors were taught never to apologize. Then they learned that patients are unlikely to sue a doctor who apologizes. They're still quite new at this apology business. It's great that you are able to cut him some slack.

OMG,
We don't sue here, or very rarely. It usually makes the papers or TV when someone does. Bree great that you got  an apology, some have such a God Complex.
Now we wait for good results. Cal :)

This guy does have a God complex, so all the more surprising.  This EOT test was very important to me, esp since I have been sick.  To apologize was the right thing to do.

Apologies are important when we step on someone's toes, or cost them time, money, distress or hurt them.  Having said that, I didn't behave so great at a retail store today after a long wait in line with a really inconsiderate person in front of me that made everyone else have to wait about an extra 20 minutes.

I'm still happy and grateful!  I think I am cured so I'll take a few inconveniences along the way!

Hey Everybody, I appreciate the concerns coming from everyone but those around Me at the moment! As usual , being the go to guy around here I have been run ragged since Friday. The mortals need their Man on the spot , so I was happy to oblige them. Although it wore Me down to a nub. What with cars broke down, wreckers. car wrecks, more wreckers, car rentals, body shops, repair shops, loaning My vehicle out, helping in-laws , buddies , plumbing problems (no return help there HA HA ) , and everyone elses' problems I haven't had time for My own!!!!! Oh yea, I forgot about the personal banker role!!!! MY BUTT IS LITERALLY DRAGGING THE GROUND RIGHT NOW! I really wonder if people realize how sick & tired We really are compared to the so called health problems and B.S. they are having. Oh well , I continue to march on through the Valley because that is who I am.
Hope everyone is feeling better and getting healthy. It took Me about an hour or two to get caught up on posts.
Yes Ladies I am still kicking & screaming. Any day Your get to smell & see the flowers instead of the roots is a good one.
TOMORROW IS INDEED MY LAST DIAMOND BEFORE THE INEVITABLE GRINDING WAIT FOR LABS , THEN OF COURSE 12 & 24 WEEKS TESTS. Scheduled for EOT labs. on 10-14-15 and results 10-19-15 . Oh the drudgery of waiting.
I must say that it is a happy time for EOT, yet a tad anticlimactic at the same time!!! I can't believe how I have been looking forward to the daily pill, seems like a hell of a lot longer than 84 days. Still having some migraines , tinnitus in left ear ,constant exhaustion. But I haven't been letting on to anyone just how much. It always seem that everyone is having worse problems or a worse day and I am just bitching. That I am so lucky to have the treatment. No one ever thinks about how things have been the last 40 plus years with this anchor around My neck. Oh well , I'll just keep on like Atlas with the weight squarely on My shoulder and soldier on!!!!! BUT, My time is coming soon! I plan on some Me time. Do things I want to do! Go fishing or hunting when I choose. Find Me a new hobby. WHATEVER I CHOOSE TO MAKE UP TIME LOST. Find My heart ( I now it is still around here somewhere, Where did I put the darned thing anyway???? ) and soften it up a little. I think I will rebuild the old Harley I first bought when I was seventeen. The options are endless!!!
Apparently , so is this post, So let Me see if I can end it with a bang! Here goes!!!

Wow , You really going to fight Me on the internet? What's the worst You can do? CAPS LOCK ME TO DEATH!!!!!!!

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST SO YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF THOSE THAT DEPEND UPON YOU AND NEED YOU THE MOST!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, there you are!  At least with being so busy, you haven't had time to dwell on those issues that take up our head space, like test results!  Being busy can be a blessing at times.

Glad you are almost to the finish line and thanks for weighing in and letting us know you are still with us!  8)

I'll be back said The Tominator and he was! We missed you goofing off and generally being a cool dude. Glad you have been well and that your last pill is ready for you doing it's farewell dance.
Yes I can imagine it is an anti climax. We have invested sooo much on getting well, emotionally, intellectually and of course with our time, then it's done and the wait begins AGAIN! Nevermind, I always remind myself to keep my eye on the prize. Off to the GP now to have some blood results woohoo! We still will have those to live for, for a little while yet!. Glad you're back. Bree, Glad you got an apology :) Sorry you're still not feeling well. Your good attitude is an example to us all! <3

Your story made me triple check what labs were being taken today at my 4 week. Want that VL! No one "likes' to be an example of what could go wrong. You got me to triple check the paperwork that was going with my labs :)

So than you NewBreeMe <3

. . . Gnatty My Gnatty!!! How are things on the other side . . .

Sleepy -- I'm turning into Rip Van Winkle. If it happens to you, you won't have enough time left over to fix up that Harley.

Tommy, you sure came back roaring, like that awakened grizzly in Montana:

Which test is the odd one out: GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, SVR12? They're all bloody, but we don't have to study.

Re:  Blood work.  I already got the CBC and Metabolic tests back... damn, they are fast on that, 10 hours! (All normal AST /22 and ALT/14 (that's one less than last week it was 23/15).  The only wacky result is platelets have dropped to 114... they run low, usually about there... on treatment they came up to 134, still low...

Putting it in perspective, if the AST/ALT and everything else is normal, it seems like the VL will be non-detected.  It is, because I claimed it!

I'll put all of this in my signature when I get the VL test back.

Got about 6 hours sleep.  I guess that's the new me Bree.  I can tell my body is trying to make sense of all of this and get over this bug if that's what it is (my son kicked it in 5 days (youth), me I'm up to 10 days so far...  ... in the meantime

Yay - 16 more days of Harvoni to go - AND got my first undetected result today (bloods drawn at end of week 8 - previous bloods drawn at week 3 were VL of 70).  Very exciting, even though I know that the big one is another 3 1/2  months away.  I will be glad to see what "me off Harvoni" is going to feel like - I have no idea of how to attribute how I feel physically to what anymore (meds, disease, diet, lack pf exercise, etc etc.).  Not that I feel bad at all, but it's hard to believe that Harvoni is killing off the virus with no symptoms, even subtle ones, at all.  I'm so grateful I was able to get this drug, and so angry that it isn't available to everyone who needs it.

Is today the day?  Must be close!

Percy and I had lunch, we just had to get away. He was feeling claustrophobic, something about locked doors? Anyway he paid, I'm happy. Cal :-X

Hey Yall... I just caught up with the last day of this thread.  Slept about 6.5 hours, feeling a little better... this post treatment thing "waxes and wanes" ... damn that medical jargon.

"I have a dream".... that one day we won't even talk medical jargon.  I swear we could all be doctors and very good ones, I might add.

Else, love the "You're so non-detectable you could walk thru one of those airport scanners and not cast a shadow".  That's great. lol.

Let's start a contest... "You're so non-detectable or "I'm so non-detectable"....
I'll go second... Else went first...

"I'm so non-detectable people are starting to call me Casper!"

Hey Beto,  it's Bree... I started this thread, trying to keep walking through the end of treatment strong, positive and on the upswing... and hey, it turned into a party, an upswing of inspirational support and humor (with Tommy, cal, byebyeC, else, etc. what else could it be;)  :)  Everyone welcome, jump on it, the water is perfect!

So I think Tommy is planning a virtual BBQ (along with byebyeC) and I'm planning a virtual luau (guess where I live) and you have a graduating class of 2015 started.  We are going to be so busy post treatment.

Hi as out,
I heard yes. They are still working out the specifics of what they want me to talk to, but it'll be the patients side of the story. She read out the names of the panel and said and then you'll be sitting next to Dr. C. I said he's my Doctor, we both couldn't believe it, out of all the gastros in  Brisbane he is the representative. So I am really happy. It's 29th October so not long. It's a Q and  A style. Should be fun. I'll tell you more when I get the specifics. Cal :)

Whereas to my specialty pharmacy, 3-3 = 1. A few weeks after they sent me my third bottle, they emailed that it was time to reorder. I ignored the email, so they phoned -- a recording with an option to talk to a live person. I said I'd be happy to receive and use the fourth bottle as long as my insurance was paying for it. Well, actually, no . . . .  All this, of course, happened a couple of days after the independent survey company had phoned to ask how the specialty pharmacy had performed.

This morning a nurse from the specialty pharmacy called for a short interview. Her questions were grinners. " Are you depressed?" I said no not anymore!
" Are you drinking?"   I said no not anymore!
" Are you experiencing any side effects?" I told her my left thumb stopped working a few weeks ago & she wanted to have a pharmacist talk to me about weather to discontinue treatment! I said that was not realistic & I will continue the Harvoni at all costs!!!!!WOW!!!!!

Hey Yall,

Tommy, no hijacks perceived here... just friends being together - making the most out of our extreme situations.

Rose, I hear ya, waiting on mine... again (first one wrong test, duh)!

Cal, you are one of the best reps I can think of who could give testimony.  And, we all have a great bbq.

Scout, that was you with the pharmacy mix up.  I remember.  Mine was lost on delivery with a new fed ex carrier.  Heart attack.  Finally got it sorted.

Yea us!!!  Going for a walk with a friend who I just learned her and her husband are moving back to the mainland.  I was so bummed, I cried.  Two of my best friends and my part of my inner circle that I can could count on my fingers. Feeling oddly emotional post treatment.  She's a nurse practitioner and is a great help to me.  Oh well, I'll just have to go visit. Still blessed.... Bree!

Thanks for the laughs, Scout, Rosie and Bree -- I needed them in between trips to the loo. Whoa, I thought diarrhea was a possible side-effect of treatment, not 8 days post. Guess I was anal-retentive for the entire 12 weeks  :-[

Bree, I'm sorry your friend won't be within hugging distance -- bummer indeed. Good on you (as Cal would say) that you're counting your blessings.

My specialty pharmacy was so bad....it was a nightmare until I finally got my first round...then not so bad, except they would call occasionally and say/ask stupid ass questions.  I sure hope they send me a survey to fill out.   A total joke.

Go figure.  I guess there's just no telling where the weak link will be in the convoluted process of treatment approval.

I gotta give big props to Walgreen's Specialty Pharmacy in Beaverton, OR.  Amazingly competent with really fast response times.  I had a case mgr in the "special handling division" from the get-go.

They even went the extra mile to try and work with my doctor's office early on to get prior approval.  Though ultimately my prescription was "closed out" (their terminology of limboland, not canceled) , and my case mgr apologetically explained that there was only so much she could do if my doctor's office wouldn't return her calls or acknowledge her faxes.

BUT!  Fast forward 12 weeks, I called them the day I got the notice of my denials being overturned by the independent reviewer.  It was a Friday afternoon.  My case mgr. contacted my insurance to verify coverage, a pharmacist  called me on Monday for a long consult, (I think he read the package insert to me!  ;D) and I had meds in hand on Tuesday.  Wow!

If you can choose your Specialty Pharm - I highly, highly recommend Walgreens!

Ride that wave!  Congrats BKD, join the "hui" (translation: group).

Just walked 4+ miles with my friend who is moving (not for several months).  She kicks my butt with exercise.  I was afraid I wasn't ready but she makes me rally.  She wrote this awesome letter when I was trying to get treatment explaining how my stamina was not normal and I had to rest every few days. She's already planning my extended visit to where they will be on the mainland.

Still feel I'm going to cry any minute and a bit off (like burning behind my face) and head is "thick"... body comes and goes... but damn, I think I'm getting better  8)   ... and better and better and better.  Yep, that's my new mantra.

Better, great, fantastic, awesome, wonderful, out of this world!!!

Woosh! There's a cyclone warning off the east coast of Australia called Cyclone Else!

Reading all the issues you guys have with pharmacies, I wonder if that will happen here or if the drugs will still come through the hospital pharmacies?mmmm. I got my whole 12 weeks in bottles just handed to be at my appointment!
We are finding that the 12 seekers have approx 1 1:2 weeks extra drugs and the 24 seekers 3 weeks. Some are being advised to take them extending tx. But the hep council if Australia are collecting them by post to get a whole tx regime fir someone in need who can't access the drugs. Great idea.

Bree,
So so sorry that your best pal is going, it's happened to me twice now and I have never replaced them. They hold a special saved seat in my heart. Yes we call, Skype etc. but it's not like dropping for a cuppa and a whinge. You are such a darling, I hope this won't pull you down, remember to keep mindful about it until you are off your trainers wheels. Poor thing. Cal :)

Thanks guys for your kind support,
I shall do my best and keep you posted. There has been a lot of movement towards the o/s generics and a few HCV Dallas Buyers Club style organisations, which I think the Government is concerned  about (embarrassed more like) so these things as well ask saving lives are bringing awareness to the powers that be of the desperation now being felt.

Good on you (as Cal would say) that you're counting your blessings.
anal retentive, now you're anal expulsive poor thing! Good on you Knatty. Cal  :)
