Genetic Variation and Spontaneous Hep C Clearance
« on: October 14, 2015, 04:32:42 pm »
Hello:
I have posted previously when I tested positive for the anti-Hep C Antibody over a year ago. 2 subsequent PCR tests  6 months apart show no detectable virus. A tainted blood transfusion in the mid 1970's is the suspected mode of my infection 40 years ago. I am negatiive for HIV (and have never used any IV drugs).
I have had my DNA anaylsed ( thru 23andme - 2 years ago) and recently ran the raw data thru the program Promethease.  Then I researched the literature in PubMed for spontaneous Hep C clearance and correlation with genetic mutations (SNPs) on specific chromosomes. I came across this paper "IL28B Genetic Variants and Gender Are Associated With Spontaneous Clearance of Hepatitis C Virus Infection" which can be read at this link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22329371
I have 3 of the 4 featured SNP rs numbers and genotype for spontaneous clearance ( rs 8099917TT, 8105790TT, 1298075AA). -I also have another SNP from another reference: SNP rs4803223AA.
SO while I was unlucky to received infected blood - I am extremely lucky I have these mutations.
This was all uncovered through starting the process of DNA testing for familial Parkinsons since I have 3 people in my immediate family with Parkinsons (although I do not).
