Anyone else had to have cancer treatment while treating hep c?
« on: September 25, 2015, 06:12:19 pm »
Hello everyone. I find myself in a situation see I've been taking Viekura + ribaviran for 7 weeks now unfortunately during a routine colonocopy I learned I have anal cancer that must be treated with radiation and chemo. I am on a 6 month treatment plan for hep and now they want to start cancer treatment in October. My question is has anyone else had to have cancer treatment while treating hep c? If so how has that been for you? Did you complete both or did you have to stop one of the treatments. Also I am very strong and otherwise healthy besides my cirrhosis and cancer I just would like to know if anyone else has dealt with this

I am so sorry to hear that Red!  Life can be so difficult at times.  I would call Giliead and talk to your internist or cancer specialist.  That is way beyond our expertise here.

Good luck to you and hope all goes well.  There are so many advances in cancer treatments.  You'll be in my thoughts!

Thank you Katie. I appreciate your response. Of course my doctors are communicating. My GI says we are not sure how this is going to turn out there are no stats on it. Yikes! That's kinda scary and exciting in the same breathe. I am so happy with the results I've gotten from hep c treatment I just want to keep moving forward and finally kick its a** doctor says if need be it will have to stop. NOooo..... I hate this virus but in the same breathe I am fond of my butthole and my life. This has put a wrench in my workings! I would still love to hear anybody's story who has under gone cancer treatment of any kind while on hep c treatment. They  will tell me what stage my cancer is 9/29/15 I will post on that and start date of chemo. Tuesday I go for blood work hep c. Almost 2 months. I feel pretty good minor side effects. Insomnia the worst, dizziness, when I do sleep dreams are very vivid,  I like that! Occasional side effects, head aches, muscle aches, shooting pain in toes feet not real bad, if I work to hard it will use all my energy and I will sleep to day to recover. Currently working 1 day per week hard labor! Septic pumping and maintenance service. This is my last week I can work.

Coming up on 12 weeks should start  6 weeks radiation and 5/5 days chemo first week of November. I asked doctors to let me get 12 weeks of voekira and ribaviran before starting cancer treatment in case things go south and I have to stop hep c treatment my cancer doctor agreed . after one month of hep c treatment it is undetectable and all liver test are coming back normal. My glucose has risen a bit but I think because I'm getting my appetite back and maybe making some not so go choices at times. Im working on that. Increased veggies big time. Starting to show signs of becoming anaemic so we will have to deal with that before cancer treatment. This will be interesting

Red Raccoon please check out
www.cancerconnect.com
this forum is professional, well respected, and is as supportive and informative for cancer as this forum is for Hepatitis C.

It is easy to sign up just go to JOIN in the upper right corner and they will walk you through the set up. I would advise you to post your question under both your cancer site group and the treatment group.

See what they have to say about Direct acting antiviral treatment in tandem with chemotherapy/radiation and please report back!

That was smart, Raccoon.  I'm glad your doctor agreed.  Undetected after one month?!  Congrats!!!  It sounds like your body responds well to medications.  That should serve you well in your upcoming treatment.

Sapphire sent you a great link.  Best to you!  :)
