Harvoni doesn't depend on your immune system (white blood cells, etc.) to get rid of HCV. The older treatments DID need your immune system's help. Having said that, my WBC before treatment was 5.1, and after 28 Harvoni pills it was 5.7. (Both were within the normal range, which was 4.4-11.3 at that lab.) I wonder if that means the WBCells knew something was going on and therefore mobilized somewhat.
9/29/71 transfusions
HCV genotype 1a
7/09/15-9/30/15 Harvoni

Before treatment:
Viral Load 9,490,582
FibroScan 19.5 kPa [F4]
ALT 262
AST 217
ALP 183

Most recent:
VL still UNDETECTED (SVR 102)
FibroScan 7.6 kPa [F1-2]
ALT 15
AST 20
ALP 85

  • Get tested, get treated, get cured, fight Hep c!
Hi Terminator

http://www.infohep.org/Hepatitis-C-treatment-factsheet-iHarvonii-sofosbuvir-ledipasvir/page/2942285/

"How does Harvoni work?"

"Harvoni contains two direct-acting antiviral drugs that target different steps of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) lifecycle. Sofosbuvir is a nucleotide analogue HCV polymerase inhibitor, meaning it blocks the polymerase enzyme which the virus must use to reproduce. Ledipasvir is an HCV NS5A replication complex inhibitor that interferes with another protein HCV uses to reproduce."

Or in other words Harvoni does not destroy the virus it prevents the virus from making copies of itself so as the virus cells age they die off without reproducing.

Not sure about those minor changes in WBC that Gnatty experienced as they were all in normal range.

I had numerous CBC done during my treatment because I was on Ribavirin results as follows:
before tx: 4.8,
On tx in order : (week 4)4.6, (week 8)4.7, (week 10)4.8, (week 11)6.8, (week 12)5.1, (week 13)4.1, (week 14)3.7, (week 15)4.6, (week 17)5.4, (week 24)4.4
Post tx: (SVR12)4.5

I think those couple of higher tests I had a cold with a cough for a couple of weeks during treatment. But otherwise my tests were all in a narrow range up and down and pretty close to my pre and post tx tests. And actually until week 11 when I was sick they were lower than my pre treatment WBC test.

I am not thinking that our immune system response has much to do with the mechanism of action of Harvoni.

If our immune systems could beat hep c we never would have been chronically infected.

So that's my 2 cents anyway
