Australian fibroscan readings
« on: January 13, 2016, 06:46:21 am »
Hi all,

Well I just threw out my first empty box - four weeks down.
The end of the second week and last week were pretty bad with muscle fatigue,
and anaemia but I was back at work today and feeling lots better.

Can anyone tell me what the measurement scale is for fibroscan tests in Australian.
I am reading f3, f4 etc. on other people's signatures.

My gastroenterologist provided it on a scale of 1-10. He said "under 5 we usually say no damage. You are a 6, at 6, we don't know, there could be damage, maybe not." So I have no idea what that means.

Hope you're all having an easy day or night of it,

all the best,

Hazel

I've only seen fibroscans measured numerically in I think kpas. My specialist says anything under 13 is not cirrhotic. Fibrosis ranges from 7 or 8 upwards I think but don't quote me on that. Fibroscan measurement is different to Child-Pugh.

Hazel, now that your countrywoman Philly has confirmed that Australia also uses the kPa (kiloPascals) rating, I suspect your specialist was just trying to simplify things for you by placing your result on a 1-10 scale. Find out what the kPa number was, then use the color-coded chart on this web page:
http://hepatitiscnewdrugresearch.com/fibroscan-results-the-scoring-card.html

-hope your day back at work didn't wear you out.

Thanks both,

"My countrywoman" - I like that: jodhpurs, akubra hat, horse, up in that there great dividing range, while I'm down the tail end of the range (it's a big country, as they say): jodphurs, akubra hat, goat.

Hi Hazel
I was originally diagnosed with cirrhosis (F4) with a liver biopsy 01/08

Just in case my insurance needed something more recent my doctor did a fibroscan Sept 2014 and my score just for a reference point for you was 27

I suspect you are much lower than that. If he was referring to the scale used on the chart at 6 that would put you at about F0 to F1

So no worries

I had jodhpurs when I was a young teen but we call them riding breeches :)

Hi Lynn,

Riding breeches! Do you still ride?
Yes, I think in context my fibroscan figure is very low, so I'm lucky.

Cheers
