Solvadi / Ribavirin + cystitis or uti sx? treatment?
« on: January 31, 2016, 10:37:31 pm »
Hi, I'm new here. Dx in 1997, finally getting tx with solvadi + ribavirin. This is end of week 6; 6 more weeks to go. I've had symptoms of either uti or cystitis for 2 weeks and was treated with 2 different abx and pyridium, but no improvement. I'm really worried that this is my new normal.

1. Can cystitis be treated while I'm on solvadi / riba? (the treatments and dx sound pretty bad, too)

2. Will this go away, or is it permanent?

Hi kismet, & welcome to the forums! :)

I had read in advance of tx that uti could be a consequence of this treatment. So I bought 2 cases of organic unsweetened cranberry juice and drank it every day during tx. Don't know if it made a difference, but I did not have any cystitis/uti during or post-tx.

Hi, kismet -- Although I don't have answers to your two specific questions, when I had a uti during the time I was under the care of one particular doctor, he recommended cranberry juice! That is, he said he could prescribe medicine OR I could just drink cranberry juice. I chose the cranberry juice, and the uti cleared up.

In addition to cranberry juice, your doc should be culturing your urine to help determine if you need an antibiotic. As for if you can take one, there aren't any that are contraindicated. In case you want to check for yourself, you can read the prescribing info and also check this link: http://www.hep-druginteractions.org/Default.aspx
