Boarding the H-train in the morning

Tomorrow will begin my journey in ridding Hep- C from my life. On 8 week cycle of Harvoni, doctor ordered 1st blood test in 2 weeks. Hopefully, VL will be drastically reduced.  It has been a great support for me to read what others have gone through. Hoping for the best.

Day 2 coming to an end. No side effects. Did have a very slight "head buzz" yesterday, but heeded the advice given here to drink LOTS of water, I think, helped.

FT-  glad there will be joining the ride together.  Hopefully, we all have a smooth ride next few months

day 4-  outside of the head buzz for a few hours the first day no side effects. Positive note- first time in a long time I didnt feel tired at end of work day. Maybe the fog of fatigue starting to lift.
Hard to wrap my mind around the fact this disease will be gone shortly. Always believed treatment would have some not-so-pleasant side effects.
End of next week first blood work.

JR & Just Breath --- I boarded this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!  Took a window seat and plan to enjoy this journey, that I have waited so very long to start. JR, I also am in a bit of disbelief that this HCV dark cloud may be on the way to being lifted. So let's just settle back, stay as healthy as possible for the next 83 days, and look ahead to our destination!  The future is very bright! FT

JR, ain't it the truth! I felt like I hadn't taken anything all day today, so I truly hope this is what it's going to be like for the next 3 months. But, I also adhered diligently to the hydration advice given by so many, so I'm thinking that was part of it.

Hi fellow passengers, JB and JR! Just thought I'd check in; so far, very, very good, today is day 4 for me and I am thus far astounded  at the lack of sides.  Still very tired, but that has been my norm for a long time now, hopefully it will improve eventually.

I wasn't a big fan of the rock group Queen, but since about an hour after taking my first miracle pill the song "Another one bites the dust" has been going thru my mind (LOL), as I envision the viruses being attacked and not replicating correctly....."and another down, another one down, another one bites the dust"! Just so glad to be finding something funny and laughable about this disease now. Keep the spirits up and I'll keep in touch --- FT

FT- good choice of a song. Brought back memories from HS. That song was my class' song to play after every sports victory.  How fitting every pill a couple 100 or so thousand Hep cells bite the dust.  As with you, I have had no sides at all.  Had a slight headache building thursday but felt that was more work- induced than meds. So far a smooth ride. Today marked one week on Harvoni.  One more week and first blood work. Hang in there this ride wont be that long.

Hey fellow Harvoni passengers! I'm feeling more "normal" than I've felt in months as of day 8 and just wondered if you're experiencing the same? I'm guessing my liver enzymes may be normalizing? Many people who have blood work done prior to week 4 have reported a significant change in both VL and enzymes. As of yesterday noticed a lot less tiredness and today even more so, for which I am VERY, VERY GRATEFUL. Fatigue has been my worst symptom for a very long time (years) and not having it feels almost surreal. Hope it stays this way!  My next labs aren't until 3/23 so won't know until then.  Hope all others are doing well.... FT

Glad you have started tx. For me the first 2 weeks was bad but now EOT I am much much better except for some edema in the lower legs. Everything should improve as time goes and time flies :)

Jakas, as my albumin came into range I found the edema went away. Now I occasionally get it if I've been flying long haul, or on super hot days, or I've spent lots of time on my feet. Not nearly as bad and I no longer regularly  take diuretics.

Jakas, I have to admit I am shocked at this lack of fatigue so early, but also realize this can change as this journey continues.  This disease affects all of us so differently, as proven by all the posts on this forum, so keep the faith that you WILL continue to improve! That "undetected" word is the most important and once that's achieved, the hope is that it all falls into place eventually. Just glad to be on this train and moving! Sending a letter of thanks to my state IMR this week for their help.

Thanks for the invite!

I am on day 82, of this 84 day Harvoni ride.

When I got my bottle from the pharmacy yesterday, I had them take my picture holding it, with a big smile.
They laughed, and maybe thought, "Americans are funny!".
I've waited a very long time for those meds!

So far, I've had no side effects.

I feel kinda good, actually...  :)

Hey Pansy, I, too, took a picture of the Harvoni bottle, but mine was delivered to my home so it was on my kitchen counter -- only the dog saw (l0l)! Glad to have you on board and let's hope the ride stays smooth. LynnK provided some excellent advice on the antacids - lots of great info on this forum along with a big helping of support and empathy.  FT

Hi Future Thinker. In the first 7 days on Harvoni, my viral load fell from 4 million to just 131. So really, most of the work was done in the first week, virologically speaking. I felt a noticeable improvement in mental clarity by Day 6 or 7. Memory was functioning again, etc. Energy was much better too, but I think the energy part was the "Harvoni High" kicking in.

FT- it was about day 6-7 that I could feel the fatigue lifting. Im noticing im sleeping better at night. Feeling rested when morning comes around.  Havent felt like that in some time. So far, no effects except mild headache, but drink some water and it dissipates. Been drinking somewhere between 50-80oz of water not including other beverages. Hopefully, will know VL next week.  I go in for a blood draw Monday. Two weeks & two days after boarding the train. Fingers crossed

Kim and JR -- I am just amazed that tangible improvement is happening so quickly. I so hope it stays this way. Brain fog is better but still present, I am sure that will take a bit longer to fade, but not having movement be such an effort anymore is just wonderful! Kinda makes me mad that my insurance co. made me wait ~ an additional year to feel so much better, but at least it is happening.We just have to look forward at this point and be grateful. I don't think it's easy for others (even medical folks) to really understand just how immobilizing fatigue can be.  I couldn't put a good description on it myself until I wasn't feeling it as much! It's like a weighted cloak has been lifted off my body, making getting up and moving so much easier. Amazing!!

JR, prayers and crossed fingers are with you on Monday!!! Sounds like it will be good news from the improvement you, too, are experiencing.  I have to wait till 3/23 but am very excited for your news next week.  FT

So far this ride has been uneventful. That was until the train pulled into our first stop, I was pulled from the group and asked to consent to a body search. I agreed and the conductor scanned his wand the length of my body. He looked up and said, " You, sir, are clear; continue on your voyage." The look of disbelief caused him to restate, " You're undetected. Enjoy the rest of your journey!"

I still can not believe 18 pills into Tx and VL is undetected! First step to SVR!!

And loved your way of posting the news, keeping us in the dark until the end (LOL).  I really think we need to rename this ride to be on the "Magic Bus" vs. the Harvoni train........ it seems like magic, what this one little pill can do. I took a headache tab, and it worked.

I'll just have to wait and see, stay away from stressful situations, drink a lot of water,
and maybe cut down time viewing computer screen!

Futurethinker- Thanks,waiting for those first results was filled with 48 hours of anxiety. I am able to view my labs results online and not wait for a phone call. When I received notification tests were viewable I had to have my wife read them to me.  Hearing the words, "undetectable" brought tears of joy& relief that this journey is going down a different road. I can only imagine the gratitude you feel for the IMR to force your insurance to grant treatment. Glad to hear you're not experiencing any side effects, one of my biggest worries in starting tx. Still having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that taking this pill is stopping a virus from decimating our livers.

Your are not alone my friend.  I am a total wuss when waiting for the results.  I have the docs office staff trained to blurt out "undetected" first word so I don't have to wait for the long sentence..."hello, we got your labs today...bla bla bla"  Seriously I am a wreck.  When I check them online I like shake like a leaf.  Haha...I have even past the SVR12 mark and I am still dreading the SVR24.  If I stub my toe I wonder if I am relapsing...OK thats a stretch but, truly it is nerve racking.  You are going to be just fine...best of luck.  ;)

Beto, you are tooo funny, but I totally understand the anxiety you describe, as I'm going to be there very soon waiting for my 4 wk result. I'm hoping my doc's office will call asap when they get the result, vs. making me wait for the appt, due to the prolonged journey I've been on to get to this point! I don't know what their protocol is, since I've never been on treatment until now.

JR -- I think it's magic!

Pansy, glad you're finding a relatively easy way to get rid of the HA.  Seems if I start getting one, I drink more water that's taken care of it, so it hasn't been an issue. It's certainly one of the more common side effects, per Gilead. Mine seems related to hydration thus far.

Can't believe 28 days of treatment have flown by so quickly, it's almost like a dream.  Still doing well, enjoying the lack of fatigue and staying positive.  See my doc next week, so will hopefully have good news to report! FT- Awesome!  I finished my first bottle this past Saturday. Had second blood test, AST/ALT couple points higher than first test, but not worrying as they are well within range.  Just waiting for the HCV RNA results to update my signature.  Hard to believe this time next month will be EOT for me. Then the wait for EOT SVR12.

Received my 4 wk results, a mixed bag: 40 - 70 point decrease in liver enzymes and now well within normal limits, but VL is still detectable at 30.......... but down from 3 million, so doctor is happy, not concerned, and I'm to continue current program and get labs at 8 wks. So while I'm happy, I'm not as happy as I could have been getting that magic word in the report, "undetected".  All other lab tests are great (platelets, creatinine, albumin, bilirubin, INR), so it's a waiting game at this point.

I even called Gilead to inquire as to the 4 wk detected vs. undetected status, but she wasn't much help and didn't know much. I read what I could find online and know the EOT VL is what is most important, so that's what I've got my eye on! So on the right path and will stay on it, hopefully with better news next time.

Still feeling very good and not having any real issues with this treatment, for which I am very thankful! Will keep in touch on this journey and the future is bright, FT

I didn't go UND until between week 4 and week 8. I sat on 40 ish for a while. I felt disappointed, like you do. Your other numbers are telling a happier story though. Normal range? Way to go!

Philly, thanks so much for reassurance.  I know in my head that this isn't really "bad" news, but we all are so wanting that UD word in our lives! It really helps to hear from someone who wasn't UD at 4 weeks and went on to victory.  There's nothing I can do about it except continue taking these pills everyday and "stay calm and carry on"! My doc is confident I'll be UD on the next labs, so we will see. Thanks again, FT

After 26 pills, 2 short of a full bottle, the virus is undetected!
My usually low platelets rose to 10.0, still low, but much better!

I had a very good dr. visit, today,

I can't believe my ride ends next Friday. Then the wait for EOT tests at 4 and 12 weeks. My doctor has me testing every two weeks while on tx. Just received latest one and still Undetected!

Well, I hope I'm not jinxing my next report, but I have to say I felt another layer of clarity at the end of the 5th week, or maybe the new energy level was more sustained throughout the day -- something more than what I'd already noticed........ so I am hoping that may translate to being UD!! It's like I said before, you don't know just how unhealthy you feel until you don't anymore. What a wonderful revelation!!  My doctor's office reports offer graphing of results, and it was just awesome to see my VL line literally plummet from a year ago! Fingers crossed for everyone, FT

I agree about not realizing you feel bad until you feel better!

I had water build up, making me feel uncomfortable and puffy.
That is starting to lessen, even I drink more water than ever.
I have 6 wk blood test soon.
I hope your next one's a great one.
It is amazing to see the levels drop, after (for me) a couple years worth of high/normal liver function results.
What will be interesting is I go for 6 month thyroid check-up very soon. Been taking thyroxin for hypothyroidism for 8 years... I'll see if it is now changed, in any way...

Hi, FT,

Yes, weight gain...

A lot of it is water retention, and when it gets uncomfortable, I take a dandelion-extract capsule, a diuretic, it makes puffiness go down.
To be free of this virus, it is a trade-off well worth it!
 
Once my treatment is done, that will be my next goal; dieting and weight loss...
Until then, I drink a lot of water, and eat healthy meals, and YES, stay positive!   :)

Pansy, sounds like you've got it under control.  I'll gladly deal with a few extra # if I reach SVR!!!  I know what to do about extra weight, the HCV is a much different beast....... but we are on our way to beating that, aren't we!  FT

Halfway point!

6 wk blood test, still undetected.
But my platelets have again risen to 12.5!
I asked my dr once again, "Do you think this platelet problem I had, might be hcv related"?
He is starting to believe it.
My platelets are not fluctuating, they are climbing!
8 wk checks will say more...
Maybe I can leave prednisone, completely!

A good report today!

  Congratulations!!  That is wonderful!  I had my 4 week blood work on Monday and I am going to call and see if they will just tell me the results over the phone instead of going in to get them.  I just can't really see the point because it is what it is!  I hope you keep feeling better everyday!!!  Brie

Well, guys and gals, tomorrow marks my last day on the H-train. It has been an uneventful and smooth journey. Hopefully, everyone has had a smooth trip too(so far). Now I must wait in line and hope the ticket agent punches my SVR12 card so I can fully enjoy life again!!

I'm typing thru tears....... just found out I am UNDETECTED for the first time in 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am walking from the caboose into the "UD car" !!!!!!!!

So very grateful. Now the rest of the year is ahead to stay this way -- thinking positive thoughts! All have a fantastic weekend! THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT! FT

Good morning, fellow train passengers and warriors! Just checking in, today marked my 70th pill so I am now on the home stretch! The time has literally flown by due to this being such an uneventful and enjoyable journey. For anyone who is hesitating to start treatment with Harvoni, all I can say is discuss all your concerns fully with your doctor, and muster up the courage to start treatment. I know not everyone has such an easy ride with this, but so many of us really breeze thru it.  I am so very grateful (as is my husband!) that has been the case for me.

Have just 2-3 more labs and hopefully SVR in August! Stay positive and think healing thoughts...... FT

FT- awesome news!!!!  Glad to see youve reached undetected.  Next week go in for my 4 week EOT lab.  Fingers crossed.  Took a little break from the internet.  As for my insurance dilemma, my doctor was cc'd of the denial. When I called insurance they said the issue had been resolved through my doctors office. Hope everything is going great in your treatment.

Thanks for the well wishes, and I'm glad to hear the insurance glitch is now resolved. Maybe the insurance companies are just trying to see if they can get away with not paying for a test they basically ask for? Who knows, but glad you fought it!

Hello fellow train passengers and warriors!!! My journey has moved from the "D car" to the "UD car" and has now reached its destination, as I just took my last, 84th pill.  Now I will exit and walk towards the next destination, SVR. It seems so surreal! I really can't believe I have just finished treatment, it was so uneventful. It's in God's hands if I reach the next destination or not; but I am so very, very grateful that there are options on the horizon that will guide my HCV status if need be, options that were not available in the not-so-distant past.  I am also so very grateful to those who participated in clinical trials to find the answers in order to get these DAAs approved and on the market.  We are very blessed to be receiving our treatment now! Important to keep in mind.

EOT labs are scheduled for this afternoon, and then I walk..... and wait.... until August for 12 week EOT labs. It's a very emotional day, full of hope, good will & gratitude towards all on this forum who have supported me when I truly needed it, and prayers that all with this virus will someday be able to say they are cured. That's now the statement I hope to make!

For those still riding this train, hang in there and continue to fight! We are going to get to SVR, if not on the first round, likely on the second. The future is bright, FT

Thanks all!! What a ride this has been!! Can't say I'm not a little apprehensive about the next 3 months and the next blood test in Aug., but I am determined to enjoy life during this wait period and as I always say & try to do, "stay calm and carry on". It just does not do us any good to worry ourselves sick and increase our cortisol levels off the roof when there's not anything we can do about it, except stay as healthy as possible. So that's my plan!  FT

Sounds like a good plan, FT. And you'll be surprised at how quickly it flies by too. Before you know it you'll be getting that SVR confirmation.

Congrats JR, great news.  I will go for my 4 week EOT on June 7th, so hoping for the same results.   Congrats also to FT on finishing up treatment.  It is a long wait, but I agree time is much better spent enjoying our life in the here and now!!  Totally out of our control like you said anyway!!  Brie

JR, great news!!! It's just now 48 hours that my system hasn't had a Harvoni pill -- nothing new thus far.  How is life post Harvoni going for you? Noticing any changes?

Congrats FT to reaching EOT. Now the waiting game. Pansy, congrats to you too.  Not feeling much diferent post tx.  Just glad to get my energy back. Hated that late afternoon energy lag. Work couldnt get over quick enough.  Hope alls well your way FT

Congrats Pansy!!  The long wait for so many of us!  So it seems most here feel better being off treatment. I have not felt great for the last few weeks.  My eyes use to always be red and watery but on Harvoni they were so white and not irritated.  But  now not so much.  I don't have allergies so not sure if it means anything.  I also am dealing with fatigue that is so unusual for me.  I walk everyday and it has been such a struggle for me.  There a few hills that just about do me in.  I am stopping to catch my breath.  I felt great most of the time while treating so I guess I didn't expect this.  I am starting to take vitamins and drinking my green drinks but just not quite myself yet.  So still enjoying life and just moving a little slower these days!!  Brie

Hey JR! I'm feeling pretty good thus far, but today feel very good, optimistic and more energy, so am hopeful my old self is coming back.  It's been gone for a long time and I am ready for it! But I am realistic that this will likely take some time, and that's OK.

There was some miscommunication w/ my doctor & they want blood work 2 weeks post EOT, so while I was trying to put the August SVR test out of my mind, guess we'll get a "sneak preview" soon. So keeping my fingers crossed and enjoying having treatment completed and hoping for that SVR! Hope all is well w/ you, too -- FT
