Harvoni treatment ease
« on: March 13, 2016, 02:46:48 pm »
Hello everyone!
The drug monograph states little to no side effects, and it seems a lot of people have side effects.  Did anyone get through without side effects and become cured????

HI Forest Dweller. I have seen more than one person post here that they got through Harvoni treatment with no side effects or problems. And I have a friend who did too (and got cured). AFAIK, my only Harvoni side effect was the "Harvoni High", which was quite pleasant.

I think any negative effects during my treatment were all due to the ribavirin part of my treatment, because they were typical ribavirin side effects (anemia, rage). But it is impossible to know for all side effects when 2 different drugs are involved. I did have significant appetite suppression and weight loss throughout treatment. Could never tell if that one was due to Harvoni or ribavirin.

I'm sure you'll do fine! :)

Thanks kimintheforest,
It was kind of bugging me to keep reading horrible effects, and thought it would be nice to have a post with all good reviews.  I am on second week and am feeling so good most of the time that it seems too good to be true!  Yikes, sure hope it keeps up.ciao for now...

Sounds like the Harvoni High is kickin' in for you. That's a great way to go. ;)

I hope others will post their good experiences.

I was on just harvoni for my first nine weeks of my 24 weeks of treatment. I started taking ribavirin at week 9 and had anemia from the ribavirin so my second 15 weeks were kind of tough but the first 9 on harvoni were a breeze. I had a couple of mild headaches but whether that was from harvoni or just a mild headache for any reason who knows.

Just to add I was treated 3 times with interferon based treatment and was a null responder and treated with Sovaldi and olysio for 12 weeks but at 12 weeks post I was found to have relapsed. I had hep c for 37 years and was diagnosed with cirrhosis Jan 2008. But I did not have side effects from harvoni and I am now cured of hep c.

We have a lot of folks here who say treatment was easy for them and some who had a harder time. I think it is human nature to be more likely speak up when they have a problem and not as much when they have no issues. At least some of the people who had problems on treatment also have other health concerns other than hep c.

I hope your treatment continues to be easy and you are cured of hep c.

Two Harvoni pills into week two, and so far no side effects that I can attribute to the drug. Well, not sure yet, but my dreams might be getting a tad more vivid and plentiful. That could be due to other things; taking up dragon slaying is a pretty big life change, for example.

I have a lot of fatigue - I sleep ~nine hours per night, then take an hour or so nap after breakfast, but I was doing that during the two or three weeks before treatment. I reckon that's my bad liver and my emaciated condition. Coffee might help with some of that, but strangely enough coffee just has not tasted right at all to me this year. :( And I'm a coffee geek, a coffee snob!  :'(

Spring's here, and with my bad back somewhat straightened out by physical therapy, I'm thinking more outdoor activity will help a lot with that.

Also, I guess I'm not getting the "Harvoni high" because taking them in the evening, I sleep through it.  ::)

Hi Jon

I am going to hazard a guess that the vivid dreams you are having as you are taking Harvoni late could be the Harvoni high a slightly stimulated nervous system

Just a thought :)

Hi, Lynn,

Yeah I wonder. We'll see if it continues. Wouldn't be bad if it does :)
Thanks

I am on my 4th day of Harvoni and have not noticed any side effects but I made sure I didn't read up on the known side effects before I started. I have all sorts of pains and side effects from cirrhosis and liver cancer (treated successfully) so probably wouldn't notice them anyway :)

I have 9 pills left of a 12 week regimen of generic harvoni and I have not noticed any side effects.  The following have happened.  At about day 4 I suddenly felt wonderful, not in the morning, not a harvoni high, I felt good all day, tons of energy and I have been this way ever since.  I am now swimming a mile three times a week and doing walking, hiking, skiing the other days.  If I exercised before treatment, I could only do it one day a week and I was totally exhausted the rest of the week.  So, I consider this a great a change. I also have very little in the way of joint pain, swelling, knee pain, many of the things that have plagued me for years.  I could not open a jar by myself, and now I can pop open most jars easily.  I move about and cannot really complain.  Oh, if I overdo it, like the first day after skiing, I am tired, someone sore in the knees, but I rebound quickly.  There have been no negative side effects whatsoever.  Look at my stats and you will see that I have been undetected since 4 weeks.  I hope you have similar results.  ML

After 8 weeks:AST 23, AST 11, HCV RNA UNDETECTED
6 weeks post treatment, undetected.
