VL is back 12 weeks after EOT
« on: March 17, 2016, 04:30:32 pm »
So today I received a call from the local VA infectious disease clinic who treated me with Viekira pak + Ribavirin for 12 weeks. It has been 12 weeks after EOT and labs show return of VL, again... Followed instructions to a tee and never missed a dose. VA following up with some type of resistance testing? Confidence is low at this point... :(

So terribly sorry. Even if you didn't take the medication perfectly and missed a few doses, this isn''t your fault. Sadly, some have resistance. So, they will find out what you have and very likely offer you something easier with fewer side effects than Viekira.

Don't freak if your VL and ALT are higher than before for awhile - this is normal and expected.

Also, even though you weren't permanently cured, your liver likely had time to heal a bit and you didn't waste your time.

Keep us posted.

Keep the faith Lustino.I'm using the VA also and this is one area they're really good with.As Philly said the new meds are coming out and they'll sort you then.I finished my tx in January and have my 12 week bloods coming up on the first and I'm a mess right now.Eventually we're going to bury the dragon for good. It's just going to take some of us longer than others.

While I'm thinking about it and just for the information,I just read a article that said the number of veterans being treated by the VA for HCV is putting a huge dent in their budget. They are willing to spend the money on us and they are willing to do whatever they need to to treat us.Keep us posted on what happens.

Good luck Lusitano! I can only imagine what a blow this news is. But as others here have said, new drugs and refinements are coming out all the time right now, including drugs for treating relapsers and those who have resistant strains. It's a gold rush for Hep C meds. And everyone will be getting cured one way or another. Keep the faith.
