Generic Harvoni
« on: April 21, 2016, 02:26:23 am »
4 wk Lab Work showed less than 15. I started with a Viral Load of 7 million.  Just received my 12 wk Lab result - NOT DETECTED!  I had headaches & fatigue.  I noticed the weakness only at the Gym.  Half way thru therapy was the worst, so I started Juicing and drank nothing but water and my morning coffee. I did however lose a lot of hair. Thinned out pretty bad. The 12th week of therapy it stopped, so hopefully it will start to grow again.  I think my therapy would have gone smoother had I ate better and drank nothing but clean water, and a lot of it!  I'm glad it's over.  This is the only therapy I have done.  Don't underestimate this pill.  You want to be on your best behavior, so to speak.  Hope this helps the newbies.  Will let you know how the 3 month Post Labs go.  Hope you are all well and hang'in in.

Thanks so much Hazel & Kim!  This journey is nothing short of a miracle.  All the glory goes to Almighty God and much gratitude for 3 special men who gave their valuable time and effort to help a complete stranger, whom I will never forget as long as I live.

Hi Rocket Girl,

Congrats on your wonderful test results!!  Are you on Zepatier?  I have a good friend who started last week and she is experiencing zero side effects.   She also didn't have any negative side effects from the hcv even though she had it for decades.  I am almost through my 5th week of Harvoni and feeling really good, but did have some side effects the first few weeks.  How lucky we are to have these new meds, I will never take it for granted!!!!  Take care.  Brie

Hey Brie41,
I know, Harvoni is really amazing!  So grateful!  It is definitely doable but I felt different. I am glad it's over. Seems like I've been tired for 15 years. Today is one week after Therapy and feeling more like myself everyday.  Sounds like your gonna breeze thru Therapy!  So happy for you!  I still seems so surreal. Thanks for the kind words.

Nice to hear about someone else taking generic Harvoni! Started mine on the 14th! I too am so grateful to Greg Jefferys and the others who have made it their mission to get these meds out to all of us who can't get them any other way! I have notice little in the way of side effects. Headaches, a bit of nausea, better sleep!! I have discovered if I have a green drink when I take my pill that I don't get nauseated!
Did you test at 2 weeks as well? My doctor said 4 weeks but I've heard of many folks who also tested at 2. Congratulations on your und status!!!!!

Hi Suze,
Thanks so much!  Everyday, I feel better.  Greg & his friends are amazing helping so many people.  All their time and energy for complete strangers who are sick.  As far as my Lab work, I had to fight for most of it.  My Kaiser Permenente Physician Assistant was so happy for me but made it quite clear he was not treating me.  I didn't care I just wanted my blood work and he made me fight for it.  To this day he has never commented on the results. Frankly, even my own family doubted but I knew Greg was the real deal!  I also know Harvoni does not have a 100% cure rate so if it did not work, that's not on Greg.  The PA still wound up duping me. He was suppose to run the Viral Count before therapy began and wound up using the prior year as a benchmark.  I never checked because he was soooo thrilled for me.  So really I was checked at 4 & 12 wks.  And I will be checked at 3 months post therapy. I will ask for one more check at 1 year and celebrate with a strong Baileys & Coffee!  Wonderful Costa Rican Coffee. The Nurse Moderator on this site said it would be very rare for one to relapse due to life style after one year, so that's the plan.  I don't want to take any chances. I don't know about a 2 wk check.  I think a good Dr. would check your Viral load prior to therapy and then 4,12 and 3 months post therapy. I am sooo happy for you and that you found Greg. When you think about all the people out there and there's only so much time in a day . . . you and I got thru to Greg.  The Almighty's hand was undeniably present!

I've been off this board for a couple of years and just poked in to see what's been happening.  What is "generic harvoni"?  Where can I read about it?  I took Harvoni a couple years ago and it was uber expensive. I am guessing that the generic is far less expensive?  I'd love to hear more, please!

Hi Angie,

'Green drinks' normally means green smoothies, but can sometimes mean drinks either based on, or that include spirulina.
It can also mean green teas.

Green smoothies, as you probably know, tend to be either veg-based (and are often based on blended spinach, or kale), or fruit-based (using, for e.g. banana and kiwi).
... Just to confuse things - here in New Zealand, drinks are sold that are called 'spirulina' - but that are really just green fruit smoothies (blended orange juice, banana and kiwifruit), with a bit of spirulina added.

Which of these was most calming when I was going through treatment?
Probably green teas - or the commercial spirulina drinks (not too much, though).

Dry toast can sometimes help with nausea.

Remember: You need to drink plenty of water while you are taking Harvoni.
That's probably the most important thing for easing nausea.

Hi Roger,

As you surmised, generic Harvoni (along with other generic HCV medications) is considerably less expensive than the branded versions while being just as effective. There are now a number of reputable sources worldwide such as the FixHepC buyers club and also Greg Jefferys who regularly blogs on this board about his experiences and the current situation with generic HVC medications.

Hi Angie M,

Just a word of caution regarding green tea. While i can't comment on its effectiveness for nausea, it is sometimes recommended as a "liver tonic" and does appear to have some benefits for reducing ALT and AST levels. However there is some suspicion that excess consumption can be detrimental to liver health. This isn't scientifically proven at this time and appears mostly related to "extracts" and "concentrates" but it is something that should be considered by those with compromised liver function.
