LAST DAY OF 12 WEEK TREATMENT!
« on: May 17, 2016, 01:36:45 pm »
Hooray!  I made it!  Today is EOT for me after 12 weeks of Sovaldi and Ribavirin.   I get new blood work tomorrow.  I couldn't wait to get the treatment, couldn't wait to get off it, and now can't wait to get it out of my system!  Wish me luck on recovering from the cure.  I WILL be back with good news. Yessiree!

Thanks All!  To NYCHEPCMAN, My doc is doing the EOT bloodwork to check for general health and various functions - white cells, reds, platelets, anemia, etc.  I'm not sure if I will hear about viral load until 3 months.  So far, I have been undetected at 4 weeks and 8 weeks, but other results have been a little off - not to mention my mood!   I will continue to overload with water, green smoothies, and whatever I can to detoxify.  We're going to have a lot of graduates this year.  My best to you all.  Please keep me posted on your outcomes.

Greetings Future Thinker - Determined here. With our names, we have a great chance to move forward. It looks like we are on the same calendar but different treatment.  The effects vary so much from person to person anyway, but I am interested to hear how it goes for you.  Wishing you great success.  I'm going to keep flushing out my system with water and it's a great time of year for green smoothies - I've actually found a couple that I really like.  We've done so much already.  Keep up the good work.

Yes, we sound like 2 peas in a pod with our names! But that's how I've felt about this whole journey with HCV --- I want my life back and my future back! I know some are having a terrible time with post-treatment, for which I am so sad.  Doesn't seem fair.  But I'm going to keep thinking positive thoughts -- feel strongly in the power of positive thinking -- and hope and pray for the best, most of which will be SVR in August! All the best to you in this new phase of our journey, keep us posted -- FT

Kim, You amaze me.  You have been an ongoing source of information on the forum and have been so encouraging to so many.  I am deeply sorry you are feeling so poorly.  That's so unfair.  You've worked hard for SVR and are paying too much.  Still, I see you as a strong student and warrior who will pull through.  It sure doesn't feel like it sometimes (arg! Ribavirin!) but, you know how I know?  I have gotten through things before that I didn't think I could get through, and you probably have, too.  On the other side of that, we come out with new skills, new information, new power.  That may sound unbelievable when you are hit so hard, but you are mighty, and I know you won't give up.  We still need your enduring spirit.

Thanks, Determined. :) Yes, I do try to remind myself that somehow I will get through this. I am about to start an alternative therapy I feel hopeful about.

I had such good health prior to treatment. And now, 10 months after treatment, even an outing to a grocery store is a struggle. I never imagined getting cured of Hep C would cost me my good health. Ironic as that sounds, it is possible to have Hep C and enjoy good health and a full life. And I will never take my good health for granted again.

Wellness to all,
kim

@ Determined:

Congrats!!   I am super hopeful seeing everyone with the cure from the Sovaldi / Ribi combo..   I have decided to start my 12 weeks around the end of June. If you could please share your experience with this:

* did you experience "brain fog" and what is meant by that?

* are you feeling energy return yet?

* do you still feel the effects of the ribi?

Thank you for your time.. & CONGRATS again!!  yay!

Greetings Raney. Well, I'm 3 weeks post and am getting better.  All of those sx you referred to are present but improving steadily.
1.  I do worry sometimes that the brain fog will render me stupid for the rest of time, but it won't. Brain fog, for me, is a spacey inability to connect the dots or stay focused.  Sometimes I would get worked up about something, and then have the surreal feeling of forgetting what the actual point was.
2.  My energy is rising steadily.   I still pace myself for fatigue, but I embrace it by resting as needed. I've learned a lot about setting limits, even though I wish I could just power through.
3. Riba - argh.  Stress is the worst  enemy - or is it Riba effects?  I am getting less irritable and have more time for others.  Still I embarrass myself with hyper reactions and despairing moments.  It's kind of like post trauma.  It's been a tough year.

But YES these features are winding down and silver linings appear.  Still drinking loads of water and green smoothies.  Next goal: return to fitness.  Hope you are

@ it's time: I swear by green smoothies. I read our livers like spinach, kale, broccoli, etc . . you can buy premade smoothies at the grocery store, around the fruit section usually. I swear by any smoothie. Also I have read that our livers like things like avocado.

I have read to stay away from grapefruit juice. I figure if my liver is repairing itself, I might as Well help it by adjusting my diet to its liking. I looked it up on the internet "foods healthy for my liver" and I'm sure the local library has some type of nutrition cookbook too...but I'm not that handy in the kitchen for those 6 course meals lol  :)

Greetings RiRiRo.  There are many variations on green smoothies.  I start with almond coconut Silk and add fresh pineapple, part of a banana, a bit of fresh peeled ginger and a gob of spinach and maybe some arugula. A bunch of kale freezes well but is harder to smooth. Sometimes I add yogurt or kefir  as probiotics are helpful.  I thin with water to keep the calories down.  It's better than it sounds.  Play with it, but spinach seems to be the big health hit. I really sense the benefits.  Keep it up after treatment and keep up the massive water intake.  Best of luck with your treatment.  It really does get better! And better!

Thanks for the smoothie recipes.

I haven't been able to find anything definitive on photosensitivity or risk of heat prostration with Harvoni.    Using common sense approach but does anyone know if there is a documented risk of increased "overheating" while being treated?
