Australian Success Stories

Just thought I'd give you a little snapshot into the Australian treatment experience, where as you know DAAs are available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for all Australians with HCV at a cost of between $6 and $39-ish per month, depending.

This is from David, who blogs here at Hep, from a recent conference:

"Some breaking news from the conference I attended in Melbourne last week.

1811 Australians commenced treatment with DAAs in March 2016 alone.  This figure is probably an underestimate as there are delays in getting all the data.
679 of the were in NSW
89% of the were prescribed under the general schedule s85 (through a GP)

This is a revolution considering in previous years this is the approximate number that was treated in the entire year

These figures will be produced monthly for the first six months and then quarterly

Congratulations on your hard work in making it happen."

Fabulous news! Most scripts issued through a common or garden variety doctor. Great pick up. Can't want to see the first lot of SVR12s rolling off the line!
