question on insurance practice
« on: June 07, 2016, 12:39:26 am »
Hello,
I have been authorized for Viekera Pak + Ribaviran for 12 weeks and the insurance company wants to charge me for the next quarter premium prior to dispursing the medicines.  The company is here in Mexico as is the policy but iis an international company and the claims are handled in the U.S. headquarters.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

I would be reluctant to take that combo.
There is no need for Riba if you can get sofosbuvir & ledipasvir.

As you have F4 aka cirrhosis and genotype 1a if it is available to you I agree with Coach Mike sofosbuvir and Ledipasvir (Harvoni) would be a better option is that available in Mexico?

Hello,
Thank you for your comments.

I was prescribed this combination of therapy, so now I am concerned that you think it is not the best Tx for me.
I just wanted to clarify that I do not have Cirrhosis, as I have F3.

I am not sure if Harvoni is available here, but unfortunately, the meds are on their way and I was under the impression that my doctor and my stats leaned toward the Viekera Pak with Ribaviran combo based on her research and the data out there.

I will have to trust in the process and open my mind, body and spirit to receive the possibility of clearing the virus.  Not much more I can do at this point.

I will be updating the labs this week prior to the first pill.

Best regards,
Carolyn

Ok sorry about the F4 remarks I saw in your signature  "Fibrotest .89 (F4)" but see you have later tests that show F3

Viekira Pak may be more difficult for those with cirrhosis. There have been good results with Viekira comparable to Harvoni just the more complex treatment regimen and plus the need for genotype 1a to take Ribavirin as that does have more side effects for many patients mostly anemia and rash although not everyone experiences those side effects. I don't get the riba rash but I do develop anemia when taking Ribavirin.

Many have cleared hep c with Viekira Pak so do t want to discourage you just more pills to take and keep track of

Best of luck I am sure you will be cured and that is what is most important nit the road to get there
