Hello everyone. I'm in a relationship with a female for about 4 months now. We had unprotected sex 4x since August 1st. Last last week she visited her gynecologist and also had a STD panel done. Everything came out negative with the exception of the HEP B panel. These are her results,

HBsAg screen.    Positive  (A)
Hep Be ag.           Non reactive
Hep B Core Ab IgM   Non reactive
Hep B Core Ab tot.    Non reactive
Hep surface Ab.        Reactive

I don't understand what any of these means so I saw my my GI specialist on Friday and I had a hep panel done. I couldn't handle my anxiety so I went to the ER last night and they did a liver function test and a HEP test and these are my results from last night,

Hep B Surf Ag.      Non reactive
Hep B Core Igm.   Non reactive
Hep A Igm.             Non reactive
Hep C Ab.               Non reactive
Liver function normal

The reason for the anxiety is that my little girl used my toothbrush by accident last weekend while on a two day trip to captiva Island. She said she used it once but I don't know why she would do that and if she used it before or after me. The thought of me infecting my daughter due to a careless accident is hurting me so much. Can someone please help me understand what I'm facing and answer some questions please? I'm in a dark place right now and I need help! Thank you.

I just know about hep c for which you are negative so you do not have hep c.

The single best person you should ask to interprete your test results is your doctor. We here are just laypersons and not medical professionals and cannot diagnose medical conditions.

What did the ER Doctor say about your results?

Off the top of my head I would think your non reactive results would be a good sign but I recommend you ask your doctor to interprete the meaning.

Hep B tests can be very confusing, which is why they need to be interpreted by a medical provider.

FYI, the hep B surface antibody (AB) test is reactive in people who have been immunized against hep B, or had it in the past and successfully resolved the infection. It is a good thing for this to be reactive. Someone who is surface antibody positive is not infected, and cannot pass the virus on to others.
