Some help deciphering lab results
« on: October 12, 2016, 09:32:21 pm »
Background:  I was born with Hep B but didn't know it until I was 18.  At 34, my ALT/AST shot up to around 300, so my doctor put me on Baraclude .5mg daily to put a stop to that.  Since then, my ALT/AST has been around 10-15 with no detectable viral load.  I get bloodwork done every 6-12 months.

My blood test from a year ago says the usual:

HBsAB, Qual - reactive
HBsAG - confirmed reactive
DNA viral load - undetectable
HBeAG - Positive
HBeAB - Negative

So now I'm 38 and I see something new appear on the bloodwork:

HBsAB, Quant - 10.60 mIU/ml
HBsAB, interpreted - Immune
HBsAG - confirmed reactive
DNA viral load - undetectable
HBeAG - Positive
HBeAB - Negative

With the appearance of the surface antibody, does that mean a start to seroconversion?  Or is this just false positive?

I plan to, but he is very hard to get ahold of.  It will be a week until I hear back from him.  I'm just curious if anyone else has seen these type of results.

I haven't seen many hep b patients here who might know more about test results. I hope someone comes along to help you out.

I hope this might help

Understanding Hepatitis B Blood Tests

"Understanding your hepatitis B blood test results can be confusing. It is important to discuss your test results with your health care provider so that you can clearly understand whether you have a new infection, chronic infection, or have recovered from an infection. You may want to take this sheet with you to your appointment as a reference guide. In addition, it is helpful if you request a written copy of your blood tests so that you can be sure you know which tests are positive or negative."

Your doc will have to help you sort that one out. These results don't line up easily for me to even try to guess at. Here are more resources: https://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/hbv/pdfs/serologicchartv8.pdf
