Just Tested Positive For Hep C
« on: October 13, 2016, 11:10:21 pm »
I had an STD test done a couple of weeks ago and tested positive for Hep C.

My results say:
HEPATITIS C ANTIBODY - REACTIVE
HCV RNA, QUANTITATIVE REAL TIME PCR - <15 NOT DETECTED
HCV RNA, QUANTITATIVE REAL TIME PCR - <1.18 NOT DETECTED

The best i can tell by these results and the notes in the lab report it is most likely i have had the virus in my system at some point but flushed it. That's why the antibody is reactive.

My only possible source of infection would be through sexual contact (that i am aware of) with multiple partners several years ago.

What do these results mean? Could I still be in early stages?  I go to a gastro on this coming up Monday.

Thanks

Your test for the virus was negative. Antibodies are not the virus they are made by your body when it fights the virus. Hep c is not generally considered to be an STD but having multiple partners or engaging in rough sexual practices is a greater risk.

But in any event you do not have hep c. You were exposed at some point in the past and will always test positive for antibodies.

Your are not in early stages you do not carry the virus. I am not a medical professional of any type just a patient who was infected with hep c for 37 years until the new meds came along.

Your gastro will confirm all this on Monday.

Well I made the trip to the Gastro and all seemed good.  She said it is possible i am in early stages and the antibodies are active but not enough virus to detect right now.  But she said not likely, don't worry about it but come back in three months for a new blood test to confirm.  So for now I'm not going to worry about it.

Good luck to all those who haven't received good new. Be strong in your battle.  You will over come.

that is an option is come back after a while if you still test negative for the virus you don't have the hep c virus just hep c antibodies.

About 25% of people who were exposed to hep c are able to beat the virus on their own it looks like you are in that 25%. But remember you will always test positive for antibodies from what I understand that is for life. But at least right now you don't have hep c virus it would seem.

Good luck
