what does c14 radioactivity mean in harvoni
« on: October 19, 2016, 05:06:11 pm »
what exactly does it mean when the fine print has c14 radioactivity under absorption from the insert in package of generic harvoni, i noticed the name brand harvoni is of course exactly the same.  It is a little unnerving, anyone scientist out there have a clue?

It's technical stuff only, Brad - and nothing to worry about.

A more scientific person than me (that's most people?!) might be able to give you a more comprehensive answer!

Best regards,
A.

Hi Brad,

It doesn't mean that normal Harvoni is radioactive. c14 (Carbon-14) is just the harmless and easily trackable carbon form they incorporated into the Sofosbuvir during the trials to use for tracking the adsorption of the Harvoni. While I suspect they included a specific quantity of Carbon-14 into the Sofosbuvir used in the trials, it is normally all around us in very tiny quantities and a natural part of our diets anyway. You can read more about it below.
