Started the Viekira Pak with RIBA on monday
« on: December 14, 2016, 12:01:14 pm »
Well I started the Vpak with the wonderful Ribavirin. So far so good except I'm already not liking food too much.  I had some weird rash on my shin last night that left as quickly as it showed up.  Although my palliative care nurse (pharmaceutical nurse) was all for me changing my duty status (I am a road police officer) my actual Physician Assistant for my DR questioned why I would want too change my duty status.  I work 12 hour shifts and work in a busy town.  Am I overreacting?  I can't deny that I am terrified of this medication and I'm not sure if I am making a bigger deal of it than it really is but on the other hand, if it's not as bad as my PA thinks, why do so many people fight for harvoni?  I'm flailing for clarity  :-\

You are concerned with safety, first and foremost -
your own - and the safety of others.

That's a GOOD thing!

You're not overreacting!

A.

Many people handle Riba just fine.

There are quite a few here with experience of it.
Some of them may have some tips for you.

If it really starts getting out of hand - talk to your Dr.
Sometimes they can dispense with it.

You'll know if you can't handle it. You'll feel like crap. I preferred to work part time esp for the first few weeks but my liver was pretty bad and it hit me hard. Good luck -   We are here if you want to whine -  we've all done it.

Light duty!  Finally!  Even if I handle it fine, I honestly don't want to work full duty!  All is good now... time to relax and wait to see if I explode :D

Well I am going on my third week and it's been interesting.  My hands look like I am suffering from syphilis and itch like crazy.  Got myself the ol Riba rash.  I literally fell out when I didn't take my meds within two hours of what I had taken it the day before.  I overslept after working a midnight... stayed up till night time and went to bed - next day - I thought I was hospital bound only to find out there are withdrawals from this stuff for some people. I am the some I guess.  I have spurts of energy... happy as a clam and the next minute- I want to lock my family in a panic room because I get overly irritated over NOTHING!  I shake a whole lot as if I have fever chills but ... I think my saving grace is the 3 liters of water I drink a day.  Headaches are managed with Motrin and I only take it when they get unbearable. I had a short bought of bone pain in my knees and shins but survived.  My eyes are on the prize.  I'm gonna get through this and 2017 WILL be my hep c free year!  I go for viral blood work on the 19 of Jan so I'm interested to see if my virus is detected... and I know not to panic if it is... I have till march 6 to beat the crap out of this virus!

Hang in there, Lish!

(... and remember - if the side-effects get too bad -  Riba can be dispensed with in some instances.
... I know that'll mean nothing to a man like you, but still ...)
