Dr wants me to try Zepatier
« on: January 31, 2017, 04:53:29 pm »
Hello I am newly diagnosed in the last 2 years with hep c but my scans show no scarring so I do not qualify for harvoni. My new dr said there is a new thing her office is doing where I can have a 50/50 chance of being able to get the new drug called Zepatier it's free and they send it to my house. But it's only 50/50 chance because the computer may choose harvoni. Sorry if this is confusing but in other words, has anyone used Zepatier? Is it safe? I'm really hoping to get it. Thanks

Hi, Angel --

Although I haven't used Zepatier, it's been a full year since the FDA approved it, and there were clinical trials before that. Its safety record seems to be very good. Harvoni was approved more than two years ago. The longer a medicine is on the market, and therefore the greater number of people who use it, the higher the likelihood that some new, rare side effects will occur, so comparing the two on safety is tricky, but both seem to work very well for most people, and both have very high cure rates.

HTH,

Gnatty
9/29/71 transfusions
HCV genotype 1a
7/09/15-9/30/15 Harvoni

Before treatment:
Viral Load 9,490,582
FibroScan 19.5 kPa [F4]
ALT 262
AST 217
ALP 183

Most recent:
VL still UNDETECTED (SVR 102)
FibroScan 7.6 kPa [F1-2]
ALT 15
AST 20
ALP 85
