transplant patient , 12 weeks harvoni?
« on: February 03, 2017, 08:59:44 am »
hi everyone, I had a liver transplant . no cirrohsis. low viral load. do have stage 3 kidney disease. has anyone been treated for just 12 weeks on Harvoni under these circumstances? my doc does not want me on ribavirin. he did want me on 24 weeks of harvoni so I would not have to take ribavirin but insurance will only pay for 12 weeks.now he wants me to take 12 weeks harvoni with the ribavirin. I don't want to do that with the shape of my kidneys. anyone had any experience in this?

I would expect given your history you are seeing a hepatologist associated with a liver transplant center and likely a liver disease expert.

I would defer to your doctors advice. I understand your fears about ribavirin but you will be closely monitored during your treatment to make sure you are tolerating the meds.

Good luck

... Don't know if this is relevant to your situation - but it is always possible to appeal a decision made by an insurance co.
Lots of people do it - usually in reln. to trying to get treatment approved - but the Drs for some here have appealed in order to get the best possible treatment for their patients.
Perhaps you could discuss this possibility with your Dr?

Sometimes you need to fight for what you want.
