Congrats on the SVR24. Does your doc want you to have another one? My hepatologist not only wanted a VL at the one-year mark, he wants one at the two-year mark and another at the three-year mark, even though my fibrosis level has gone down from F4 to borderline F2/F3 and he expects it to go down to F2. I don't know whether those extra VL tests are really needed or if he just wants data to feed his research interests.

No. The doc was happy with svr 12 but I insisted on another test for SVR 24. I will have to get it done in private. The state wont pay but thats not an issue

Heck even with my history of 4 failed treatments and F$ cirrhosis I was satisfied at 1 year that I was SVR. If I hadn't been for my history I would be fine with SVR24.

And anyway if you did ever relapse or become reinfected it would show up in your liver function tests.

I notice you have cirrhosis. Are you having blood testing done every 6 months including an AFP blood test and abdominal ultrasound to check for early signs of HCC? I am assuming you are being followed by a hepatologist of at least a gastroenterologist associated with a liver transplant center.

Yes any medical procedure does carry risk of infection with many things including hep c. However any licensed medical facility should be using universal precautions to help minimize the risk and this type of infection is rare thankfully.

Just don't get a back alley tattoo and you should be fine :)

Hey Jakas, on my last (!) hepatologist appointment last month, which was well past SVR 24, she requested that my PCP do one more VL test in a year.  My assumption was that this was for research or knowledge reasons due to the continued body of info coming in on these DAAs.  So I'm going to comply.  Seems each doctor is asking for different things; mine is at a large university medical center, don't know if that's got anything to do w/ her request or not.  FT
Treatment naive
Likely contracted mid-70s
Diagnosed 1a, 2011
F1-2
Harvoni X 12 weeks, completed 5/17/16
Pre-treatment: VL 3 mil, AST 64, ALT 84
4 week labs: VL 30, AST 21, ALT 14
8 week labs: VL UD!!!, AST 22, ALT 16
12 week labs: VL UD, AST 23, ALT 14
2 wk EOT: VL UD
12 wk EOT: VL UD, AST 22, ALT 13 =  SVR 12! Yay!
Last hep appointment: VL UD, AST 19, ALT 12 = SVR 39! I AM DONE!
