viekira pak and ribavirin and ... anxiety!
« on: April 04, 2017, 06:17:40 pm »
hello
I'm starting treatment in 3 weeks time. diagnosed 10 years ago with 1a. have it most likely over 20 years. my problem is i have quite bad anxiety...
after reading a lot of peoples experiences with the treatment, although most mention one or two side effects, they have gathered in my head into one giant nightmare!
i will be on the viekira pak with ribavirin for 12 weeks and dreading swallowing the first pills if i manage to make myself to do so. i know this will most likely save my life but its hard to explain how my anxiety is starting to take control of my head.
my liver function tests are good and so was the fibroscan.
i understand this might sound silly but could someone who has gone through this treatment explain to me what to expect on day 1 or 2 or 3.... do side effects come straight away or could i have a bad reaction ? i live in abroad, away from my family, my partner is not very supportive and i have children to take care of so am quite nervous about it. any answers greatly appreciated

I suggest if you can speak with a counselor to help you work through your anxiety issues.

Everyone's experiences are different but in general most people have a very easy time with treatment. I did become anemic taking ribavirin so that was a bit tough feeling tired and easily out of breath for the 15 weeks I was taking ribavirin but it was doable and I am now cured.

You can do this you are strong you will make it to the other side and stand tall and be proud of your fighting your way to success.

Think about this like climbing a mountain you will make it to the top!

Good luck

Well really for me it is a matter of not getting worse. While I am cured of hepatitis c I still have liver cirrhosis. But being cured it should stop any additional liver damage from occurring but I will always have a damaged liver. It may be able to heal with time but so far after 2 years not much change.

But thanks for your kind thoughts

Yep that is what they are there for to help us through the tough times especially when we don't have people we can talk to

Best of luck

It is understandable that you are anxious about the prospect of taking Riba. I would be, too.
There are a couple of threads you might find interesting in the 'On Hepatitis C Treatment' section.

(Hep C is in any case anxiety-provoking - whether or not you are symptomatic).

Good luck with the counselling!

Thanks Andrew, I'll have a read through the posts. Think my anxiety got worse along with other symptoms...  feeling bloated, more tired... So think it's a good time to start treatment while my liver is still good.
