Question Regarding New Relationships Post-Cure
« on: June 28, 2017, 06:09:20 am »
I am 1.5 years post-treatment and free of HCV.

I am not currently in a new relationship, nor looking for one.

I have been reading on many threads about the responsibility to tell partners about active infection, and practice safe sex, which I totally agree with 100%, but it got me thinking....

If I did meet someone, and that relationship progressed to the point of being more intimate, what is MY responsibility?

Safe sex practices would be a given - simply because we are new to each other - but, do I have a responsibility to blurt out the fact I was infected but am now cured?

I realize this may seem like a dumb question - I mean, if I'm cured then I can't infect anyone else, right?

but for some reason it is a question that has been sitting on my mind for a spell, and I felt a need to ask.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings on this topic.

Hi, CureSeeker -- thanks for all your valuable contributions to forum threads.

IMO, no, you don't have a responsibility to tell a new partner that you used to have HCV. You don't have it now; you pose no danger. Presumably, if the relationship continues to deepen, both of you will share about challenges you have had to overcome, and that will be a natural way to include past HCV in the conversation.

Thanks so much for the reassuring reply Gnatty.  I guess I just needed to hear someone say it, lol.

And, thank you for the compliment.  I'm not sure I deserve it.  You and others seem to post tirelessly here, and have much more knowledge to contribute than I do.

Your posts in particular are always thoughtful and nonjudgmental - and friendly.  I appreciate your taking the time to help ease my troubled mind.

Thanks again - for being a 'friend'.  *hugs*  :)
