Will be starting Harvoni
« on: April 30, 2017, 05:04:09 pm »
Hello everyone.
I believed I contracted hep c in the 1970's after a blood transfusion. Not diagnosed until early 2000's. Haven't done any treatment.

I was just approved for Harvoni. Awaiting pharmacy to contact me for start date.

My question is at what time did you take Harvoni? I was thinking around 8pm so if there are some side effects I will be able to sleep thru it.

Any ideas of best time to take Harvoni?

Thank you.

My Dr here in New Zealand suggested breakfast time - so I wouldn't forget to take it - and that seemed to be the conventional wisdom at the time.
Me being me - I took it at 9 p.m. with dinner, because I was sort-of hoping for a slow-release with my main meal of the day.

I felt much better after taking the pill ... I felt energised in a way I hadn't for years (the so-called 'Harvoni High').
For this reason, I wish I'd taken it the morning - so I'd have had more energy during the day.

... But it really doesn't seem to matter.
The main thing is to remember to take it at the same time each day.

(Some people do experience mildly unpleasant side-effects ... tiredness, joint pain, and the odd transient headache.
Drinking plenty of water helps with that) ...

Welcome, Sarasmile --

Like you, I contracted hep c in the 1970's after a blood transfusion and opted for Harvoni. I took it at 6 a.m. because it was the only time during my waking hours that I could be consistent. That worked out well because, like Andrew, I got the "Harvoni High" (extra energy). Except for a few mild, transient side effects, the extra energy was the only thing out of the ordinary during my 12 weeks of treatment.

We've had many people on these forums who chose one time only to discover with experience that a different time would have been better. If that happens to you, your doctor may allow you to shift the time gradually.

Ditto Andrew's reminder to stay well hydrated. Wishing you a smooth ride,

I also felt somewhat energized while taking Harvoni. I took my meds at work during my first break of the day. At my company breaks and lunch time are very regimented being in a factory environment with a tone sounding to announce break so it kept me on schedule.
