Just diagnosed... NO help!
« on: May 09, 2017, 02:37:57 pm »
My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with Hep C and his insurance has denied the treatment. His doctor's office is working on an appeal at the moment but I am freaking out a little bit! My Uncle passed away last year during a liver transplant which was needed because of cirrhosis. As you can imagine he suffered tremendously and I am terrified that this will happen to my boyfriend as well. We have tried several different places to help with the treatment but most of them are scams! Does anyone have any advice about this?!

If you have multiple denials from insurance you can appeal to your states insurance commissioner several here have done so and been able to get coverage.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle but just know it takes decades for hep c to cause liver damage. Only about 20% of people infected with hep c will develop cirrhosis after 20 years of infection meaning 80% will not. We have many people here who were infected for long periods of time and have no liver damage.

There have been other ways folks here have used getting meds from overseas please wait for info on that here from someone who has gone that route. I think the web site is fix hep c but not sure as I went through my insurance.

Anyway hang in there things will work out eventually he has lots of time to get treatment

Has he appealed? Many people go through 2 to 3 denials before getting the meds. Suggestions: Call Help4Hep and ask them for assistance: 877 Help 4 Hep (877 435 7443). Contact the Hep C Careline - www.hepatitisc.pafcareline.org 1-800-532-5274.

Lynn,
Thanks for the kind words! We have done a lot of research and know that it can be years and years before liver damage occurs. We will look for the website you suggested. Thanks again!
