Swollen Liver post Harvoni

Hello. My husband discovered he had cirrhosis and hep c in 2014. He went through the VA to get Harvoni and was on it for six months. He'd probably had undetected hep c for 25 years or more. His Harvoni treatment ended in July 2016 and was successful. His spleen has been swollen the entire time with a low platelet count, but his liver has never been swollen and he is compensated. He had an ultrasound a few days ago and now they say his liver is swollen, though it looks the same as usual otherwise. They want to do further testing. I am worried. Is this an unusual development?

I am in similar situation have had cirrhosis since Jan 2008 was diagnosed with hep c back in 1989. I was probably infected in 1978.

I treated in the past with the old medicines of interferon shots over 6 months which had no effect on my hep c. I finally was cured with Harvoni for 24 weeks back in May 2015.

My US reports have since 2008 always said enlarged spleen and slightly enlarged liver consistent with cirrhosis.

It is really impossible to say what is specifically going in with your husband without his doctors additional testing completed and their expert analysis done.

My platelet count before treatment had been around 80 to 90 but post treatment has risen to above 100. It was 105 on my last testing a couple of weeks ago

Thanks Lynn. My husband's platelet count was about 40,000 and has only gone up to 54,000. The doctor doesn't seem to see it as much of a problem, surprisingly. My husband had no idea that he had hep c until he was diagnosed in 2014. His legs began to swell, he had a fast heartbeat and couldn't sleep for many months. All that has been alleviated post Harvoni treatment. He has a lot of energy, works full time, goes for long walks and works around the house, although his liver fibrosis amount and swollen spleen have remained the same- now a slight swelling with his liver was detected. I am very worried any time there is some abnormality in a test. I guess that's just what people with cirrhosis and their loved ones deal with. I will feel better when he's a few more years post treatment and everything is stable. Best wishes to you too.
